They are collapsing down on Brouwer and the passing lanes to Ovi. He barely touches the puck.

Saw it in the Pittsburgh game, their defense on the power play barely had to move from side to side. The PP works best when there's quick puck movement from side to side getting the defense moving along with it. Currently the Caps PP is not getting it done in that regard.

They didn't have to move at all. Its not just Pittsburgh, its anyone we play against. Their PKers don't have to move at all. Not going to score goals like that.
Oh damn. That's a sweet promo. I have the Caps lawn gnome on my desk at work. If I wasn't a thousand miles away, I'd be all over going to the game to get him a friend.
I miss Mr. Bruce. I saw the game last night where the Ducks defeated the Sharks and the Ducks look like Stanley Cup contenders (after missing the playoffs). Was it a mistake to fire him? I don't know, but at the same time I realize he wasn't a fit after a 10 game loss in a 12 game period. He's the best coach the Caps had so far is all I can say.

Green and Nick are the core of our PP. Their passing is too slow, and Green has to turn to get pucks to Ovi, or throw a blind pass. Passes to Ovi are telegraphed and the lane closes, so Green does his fake shot, and then pushes it back to Nick.
Lather rinse repeat.

Watch Ribs to Nick and back. PKers barely move.
With our current set up, Brouwer on the screen off a Green shot is a play that needs to be tried more, Ribs and Ovi crashing the net.

you are right about forcing the opposing pk to move side to side. facts are though, they are getting paid too and they have coaching and scouting too.
they have decided to keep green and ovechkin from shooting. they dont care if backstrom shoots. so, there is very little urgency for them to go side to side toward backstrom. they also are not afraid of brouwer in the slot. if brouwer were semin or the like or ovechkin with a good long range gunner in ov's spot, they would care about that brouwer spot. not with brouwer though. not til he scores it from there a lot more often

Oates' explanation to the PP being slow is that when the team has to retrieve the puck after a clear and then gain the zone again they are too tuckered out to do anything else. LOL
Play "goodhockey" boys. Doesn't matter if you win - just play "good hockey". We've gone from #hunterhockey to #goodhockey.
They are covering Brouwer in the slot. Otherwise you would see him getting numerous shots per PP. He has Nick and Ribs 20 feet away. He is covered, otherwise that is our go to play and the first thing PKers are forced to address.
The problem I see is that covering that play, takes Ovi out of the game.

Ovi has to receive quick passes. Its not happening but once every 3 games or so. I mean he is not even a decoy now.
I feel like Ribs and Nick need to swap, or Green and Ovi; try something different.
