No. Just... no. Why would we pay out the first TWO rounds of bonuses to Weber only to trade him for a guy who would be expected to come into a Trotz system and perform? Nashville has a known quantity in Weber, and he has tremendous value here. Ovechkin did fall off last year (though 85 points a couple of seasons ago is still damn good). Maybe it was an off-year and he bounces back. Maybe he just can't play in a system that doesn't give him absolute freedom.
I'd rather not pull the trigger on this trade to find out.

(oh and I do enjoy the people who say Weber is struggling without Suter. It's been eight games, and he has looked perfectly fine in his own end. Defensemen are expected to play defense, too, ya know.)

nashville doesn't care about actual salary because the rest of the league pays for weber to be there
beyond that, shea weber is everything that ovechkin is not

Seriously, though, perhaps this is not the best place for a discussion of revenue sharing. Take it to the BoH forum where these kinds of comments will undoubtedly be struck down with less sarcasm (maybe).
Behind Ovechkin, the next best offensive player on Washington is Nicklas Backstrom - a good, effective player in his own right. There's also an okayish supporting cast with guys like Ribeiro and Johansson.
Behind Weber, the next best blueliner on Nashville is Kevin Klein, with Josi rising through the ranks, followed by a bunch of bottom-pairing fill-ins.
Even setting aside current contract and payment factors, I'm thinking Nashville says "no ****ing way."
look at nashvilles forwards, then look at poile's record in drafting defnesman, i'd do it if ovy wasn't falling hard.
Curse you, Radulov, for leaving. It would have been the perfect trade.
If Radulov would have stayed and played nice it would be a lot easier to say no to this trade. Seriously, say Radulov signed a nice long contract with the Preds agreed to play etc etc. What reason is there for Nashville to do this?
