What happened to Holzer?

This guy was the guy who was supposed to make Schenn and Aulie expendable. He looks flat so far and he's been playing in the A all season. Does he look slow and out of place to you?

I expect more from him. I hope he can find his place soon.

I'm pretty sure it was nerves last night. He'll settle down. Plus, when Gardiner and Gunnarsson are ready that pushes everyone down.

Phaneuf-Gunnarsson
Gardiner-Komisarek
Liles-Franson
Holzer-Kostka

Fraser gone either trade or marlies

It's only been his what? 3rd NHL career game?

Give him some time to adjust, then after 10-15 games, give your decision

Definitely looks like nerves. let him find his game. It doesnt look like he lacks size or speed.. just the confidence is low so he's making bad plays.. Carlyle keeps playing him for a reason, to build it and he'll get good i hope

Watched him at the Marlies game on Saturday.

Was the second best defenceman next to Gysbers, and played with that nasty edge we like to see him play with.

Either management has seriously misjudged its organizational depth on the back end, or these players need a transition that eases them in rather than throwing them to the wolves.

Blue and white syndrome, they look better to you when you have those Leafs glasses on, when you see them with an unbiased opinion for the first time...just not as good as you expected.

Although in Holzy's case, I have seen him be mean in the AHL, yesterday he looked like Schenn.

The penalty he was called for wasn't a penalty. Save for that, he was average, not awful as many people here claim.

He needs time.

The fact is that no one was particularly good after the 1st period except for the Kadri, Frattin, Komarov line, McClement and Kessel.

The bone-headed defensive lapse that lead to Staal's goal was a travesty, but It's probably nerves.

He's a pretty steady defenseman, and I hope he settles in, and just plays his game.

I thought towards the end of the game he started playing more physical, and better defensively. It may take him 5 or so straight games to adjust to speed of NHL,and his D-partners potional trends. IMO, if Liles had have skated hard for the icing, we probably wouldn't be posting in this thread today.

While he's played awful, it's been only 2 games for him at the NHL level this year, and 3 career total.

Give him some time.

Then if he still sucks, by all means, flame away but it's far too early to make a thread asking "what happened to him!?!"

He got beat like a rented mule on that second penalty at the end of the period last night. That doesn't look like nerves. It looks like bad defending.

While playing, in your third game as a rookie, it is possible for nerves to affect decision making..

He's always looked like an AHL defender to me, he's just playing against better players now.

He looks technically sound. It's more an issue of his nerves/composure out there last night.

NHL is a lot quicker than the AHL .. He's still adjusting to the speed and has to simplify his thought process accordingly

A 24 year-old defensive defenseman struggles in his second NHL game. Imagine that.

Last season Holzer looked really good as an AHLer. Aside from the finals he looked amazing on their Calder Cup run. At times he looked unchallenged. I wished that Schenn trade happened earlier because the AHL season for Holzer seemed remedial.

That is why I'm surprised.

He has played 4 career NHL games. 2 of those were 2 years ago, and in between his 2 games this year he was demoted.

You can see he has some potential. Lets give him a couple more games before we cast him away
