Yup there is nothing more fun than watching a player play his game ans shut up the loud mouths that were ragging on said player. Almost as much fun as watching the Frattin haters/Connolly lovers silenced!

Haha, so true. The Leafs have spent so much time developing and scouting Holzer to have given up on him after a single poor outing in the NHL. The kid's got game and he'll hopefully be around on our 3rd pairing the for the next few seasons. Germans tend to be late bloomers too, which gives us even more reason to let him play and get used to the NHL game. We could have another Seidenberg on our hands

Yepp, was a great game. I also miss Aulie, but with Rielly on his way up and Gardiner and Holzer to likely make the blueline next season, where would Aulie fit realistically? He'd still have to fight for time against Gunnarsson, Liles and Franson as well. If Ashton becomes a productive NHLer I'll be happy with this trade.

Overall, I'm very happy with his performance tonight. I agree with the posters above that the haters' have gone back into the woodwork with good reason. Holzer really shut up any critics with his play against the Caps and hopefully he keeps it up.

What happened to him? He still sucks. Career AHLer.

Edit:

Good game tonight though.

HE did play well even without the goal. Maybe we can chalk up yesterday to "opening night gitters", but maybe not. He deserves credit though. Carolina is a faster skating team in my opinion. We will see how he deals with Speed again.

No one ever said Holzer has the potential to be the top paring, in fact many ppl since last year has penciled him to be bottom 2 - 6th or 7th defensman. I don't think the talent gap between the bottom pairing defenseman who contribute ~10 mins a game and AHL defense all star is huge, at least not on our team. You just can't expect having great players even in our bottom lineups without going over the salary cap.

Say Holzer is 80% of Komi's but his salary is only 20% of Komi's. You take Holzer and run.

Holzer takes the man and has 10 times the mobility Komi ever had.

If Holzer keeps playing consistently, Franson will be the odd man out by the trade deadline.

Actually I was surprised Holzer was demoted after his 1st game of the season (no need to clear waivers?)...

And I have always thought Franson is the extra out - we have too many offensive defenseman in Dion, Gardiner, Liles and we would probably need some heavyweights like Komi, Holzer types to balance out the style. Being a free agent after this season makes the Leafs have no interest to further develop Franson's game either.

Holzer can develop into a cheaper Komi imo.

Guy who will never be good with the puck, but can keep it simple, take the body in the d-zone, solid in front of the net.

I see him as a future 6-7 guy... and really he always was.

What is wrong with him again?

No adjustment period allowed? They must have instant impact.Right now he is outscoring Kessel. A good sample is 20 games, even for a guy who was rated a 7th dman.

Typical Leaf fans - ready to rip a guy down because he's had a few bad games, and then ready to build a statue after he's had ONE good one.

Can we just relax?

He did OK tonight. The goal was bonus, but I didn't think he was great. He was good. Don't forget, was at fault for the 2-1 goal.

He has a long way to go before he convinces people he's NHL worthy. More than, oh I don't know, 1 good NHL game.

He played pretty good tonight. He's surpassed Luke Schenn at least.

It's a good thing some of these posters don't run the team. Players would be in and out of this organization based on a bad game. I'm not saying Holzer is going to be great, but my god, can't we atleast give a guy atleast a week before we are ready to ship him off. It's the same thing with JVR (Who I happened to like in his first 2 games because I saw his big man/skilled potential). It's a short season, with no real training camp and a new coaching system to learn. And in Holzer's case, a new/faster league. Give players time to adjust before you make ridiculous threads.

What happened? He's playing for Leafs, that's your answer. Perhaps if he was playing for a team like Detroit who's fans don't throw a 24 year old rookie overboard after 2 games, he may turn out a decent 4th dman.

He played good last night, expect him to be solid 5-6 for the Leafs soon.

He was better last night. Still not overly confident that he can be a regular NHL defenseman.

Honestly watching the few games Holzer has been in, he isnt responsible for the defensive problems. Its more of Holzer trying to cover up Liles defensive mistakes and cough ups. I think Liles doesnt fit this system more than blaming Holzer or Fraser.
