Unless they're completely ****ed up, Avs' management is going to sign ROR to the contract he wants at the deadline. Then they will trade him for 1st rounders and Co.

Good bye ROR.

Agreed on Josefson, points aside, the more concerning is that I still don't see any kind of improvement offensively. And it's a must do for him this season.

He's going to be an NHL player, it's whether or not he has offense as well.

Right now he's a PK specialist and a damn good one at that.

Don't really know what he's worth or how he's playing, but I always thought Stafford would be a Devil one day. He and Zajac sure looked good together when they were at North Dakota, which was a while ago.

He wont stay in the lineup long being just ok though. I believe that he still has a lot of development ahead of him. But often times circumstances get in the way....If Deboer has to make a decision between a veteran and rookie being just ok the rookie is going to lose every single time.

Like Jim said, if Zubrus comes back this season and we make a trade for a top 6 forward, then he could be an NHL player spending this postseason in the press box. He has to improve in all zones, even the offensive end, otherwise he won't be anything more than a PK specialist on the last line.

Me too. Starting to look like Zarkov # 2, good on defense, skates well but not an ounce of offense.

Honestly, If Loktionov looks solid defensively and like he can chip in some offense, I'd be all for making Josefson available in a deal for a young top 6 winger and letting Loktionov take the 3rd line center spot.

I'd be very interested to see what a package including Josefson, Tallinder, Urbom or Merrill, and maybe a pick could get you.

Trade-Zajac-Kovy
Elias-Henrique-Clarkson
Zubrus-Loktionov-Butler
Carter-Gionta-Bernier
Barch

...I wouldn't mind this. Of course this is assuming Loktionov looks good enough to play, which I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Barch and Matteau would sit before Josefson,in my opinion.

While I like what both of them bring, Josefson plays heavily on the PK and in key defensive situations. Those guys don't offer that. Only way I see him sitting is maybe if we add another center.

Could you find me some evidence of that? Apparently I lost track of the situation, been quite busy lately.

In all fairness to Josefson, I think we have to keep in mind that this kid has only played 82 games in his career and hasn't played a consecutive string of more than about 30/35 games over the last 3 years.

I think if you look at his short stints in Albany there is something there that shows some offensive prowess...

First stint in North America was very impressive with 12 points in 18 games in Albany and 10 points in 28 games with the Big club. That is damn impressive from kid playing in North America for the first time...

010-11 Albany Devils AHL 18 3 9 12 4 +2
2010-11 New Jersey Devils NHL 28 3 7 10 6 +5

The injury obviously slowed that development but every time he has done a stint in Albany he has produced at a very god rate....That is more encouraging than what we've seen in the past from the "Defensive Specialist Forward" that goes by the wayside.

2011-12 Albany Devils AHL 4 2 1 3 2 0
2012-13 Albany Devils* AHL 30 8 12 20 21 +10

Another good tidbit, he needs to stay healthy too. Can't be going down every season for extended stretches to injuries.

I fully expect Mytoe to get returned to juniors and Darche to fill in for his spot eventually as well.

I don't think Matteau can get sent back to juniors now...

He can, still burns a contract year though.

I definitely still think the offense will come at some point for Josefson (how much offense? We'll see). He's still young and learning. What he has figured out already at his age is often the hardest part of the game for young players to figure out. It's just a matter of need right now. I don't think Matteau is the solution at LW on the top line, and if Loktionov proves capable, I think I'd part with Josefson for the right player.

Based on what?

Lou has stated they can send him down to juniors still without care of burning a year of his ELC and I don't know if an 18 year old can sustain whatever he is sustaining considering he gets benched for Butler in the 3rd.

That line needs a true top LW, which Matteau currently is not.

He can get sent to Albany. He already crossed the threshold for juniors. They kept him up here without playing him and they could have sent him back... but once he stepped on the ice for that sixth game he officially burned a year of his ELC and cannot go back.

He CANNOT go to Albany.

He CAN go to junior. Still burns an ELC year.

If you don't turn 19 by a specific date (Sept 15 IIRC...) and are on a CHL roster, you cannot play in the AHL that season until the CHL season is over.

No.

He can go back to juniors and it just burns a year of his ELC. He cannot get sent to Albany though.

Haha, good man Cowbell.

Well I definitely must be mistaken then. I could swear I heard someone say he can go to Albany. Well even if he's not ready this year... he has proven he will be an NHL player. He'll stick next year.

It's a quirk of there being no CHL/NHL transfer agreement but there being an agreement between the AHL/CHL so that the CHL talent pool is completely depleted and so that a whole bunch of 18 year old players aren't constantly being sent out on their own.

Us drafting Matteau out of the USNTDP and not CHL doesn't matter in being able to send Matteau to Albany?

I did it. I retweeted this from a QMJHL scout saying he was eligible for the AHL. It seems like he was wrong but it's still very unclear to me.
