Erik Karlsson should be in the discussion for best player in the world
There, I said what pretty much every Sens fan has been thinking this year.
Amazingly, Karlsson has been significantly better than he was last season when he won the Norris trophy. At some point between last season and this year he became the best stickhandler in the league. He looks like Kovalev, except his success rate is nearly 100. He glides around players without effort, and they struggle to get the puck from him.
He is a rock defensively, only ever playing against top lines and being put in all situations....PP, PK, and ES. To give you an idea of the effect he has on the team, the Sens are +8 in scoring chances this season, but when EK isnt on the ice they are -7!
Its a regular occurrence to see Karlsson strip an attacker of the puck, skate it into the offensive end (going through 2 or the players on the way mind you) and then make a great pass creating a chance. When he is on the ice there is almost never a quality chance against Ottawa, but are constantly great chances for Ottawa.
So there, I said it. Blast away.
Oh, and also....he is currently leading the Finnish Elite League in defensive scoring
I'd take Big Buff over any (so long as there was some guarantee of his health). Karlsson is great, but by no means the best player in the world.
:S I'm not sure if you're serious.
Karlsson is awesome. I harped on his defensive game 2 years ago and even at the start of last season but even thats improved. When you have great hockey IQ you don't need to be 6'2" 200lbs and rubbing guys out in order to be good defensively.
