We need to be better, everywhere. Not enough steady efforts from anyone, really. Z and Dats are the guys I would leave out of the doghouse as they typically give an honest effort (and Datsyuk has been on the bad end of a bounce multiple times tonight), but the depth lines and the D are bad. Howard is a product of the team's efforts, looks good when we win and bad when we lose. To lose to Calgary is sad, IMO. They are built like us but seem to battle and care. And their defensive players aren't lost. I'm really upset right now.

Three years of 100 point hockey? Yeah, that's pretty bad. They should be getting three consecutive years of 110 point hockey. Darn those terrible rosters.

Don't worry Babcock will fix the problem by playing him on the 1st line next game.

Possibly increase his PP time as well.

Absolutely. He reminds me a lot of Helm - good speed, tenacity, and strong checking.

But who is surprised when Cleary is getting 16 minutes of ice time a night?

Chicago's bottom six is better than ours. and their top two D are better than ours. And their bottom four is better than our bottom 4.
Out advantage over Chicago is center and goalie -- maybe

Glad to see Babcock rewarding stupid penalties with more critical PT.

This season may be a throw away year for the team thanks to Ken Holland, but this is a big year for the fan base. Consider it a character building year and not being a bandwagon fan and supporting the team even if they suck.

ALMOST within a point, while we had one more game than them *

Clearly we were good enough to beat the Blues. So it's not such a farfetched idea that we can compete with them on their level, so far.

Tatar has been the best wing tonight, it could be a case of him trying to prove he belongs but much like Brunner the puck tends to follow him. If we could trade some redundant bottom six players I would like to see a lineup of this:

Bert-datsyuk-Brunner
Nyquist/Tatar-zetterberg-Franzen
Nyquist/Tatar-fil-helm
Eaves/miller-abdelkader-tootoo

This gives us 3 scoring lines, if you'd rather have fil at the wing helm can play center instead.

This is a bunch of trash. You're allowed to use small sample sizes to judge this team is bad, but I'm not allowed to use small sample sizes to show this team is good? Excellent Logic. Bravo. Forget intellectual honesty. Forget integrity. Just use whatever underhanded tactics you can use to make you sound right.
Welcome to ignoreville junior. You obviously have no idea what the adults on this board are saying, and you you twist everything to jibberish to "attempt" to look like you know what you are saying...so Goodnight, sweet prince.

Babcock is getting out-coached on a nightly basis.

I am very disheartened with Babcock. I always thought he was one of the best coaches in the NHL, but the fact that he allows Cleary to enter the arena, let alone step onto the ice while the game is being played pisses me off.

the wings dont suck they just refuse to think differently

they will continue to get worse if they dont change their ways, thats a 100% fact

they need to have a serious discusion as to who they're, were they're going and where they want to be

some tough choices must be made and be made now

KH did a great job when things were easy and handed to him

now its time he either steps up or steps down, either way he is and should be on the clock

So, if I understand you here... that would be what the kids call a small sample size, right? Interesting, very interesting... I've read somewhere recently that using small sample sizes is foolish, or rubbish, or something to that effect.

I am on Jman's side on this one.
we were 6th best
7th best
and 6th best team in the league over those 3 years.

Lose 2 of our 3 best Dmen in the same year....

Ya, this year we are worse... we knew we would be... so now we sit around 15-17th in the league.

This had to happen before management rebuilds

So if you really want them to blow it up... they will have to miss the playoffs

I'd blame Babcock and his coaching staff more than Holland although there is plenty of blame to go around. Holland isn't the one giving Cleary all that ice-time at the expense of the called up offensive prospects he also isn't the one gluing Tootoo to the bench. He isn't responsible for the ridiculously bad special teams either.

Fine, you be satisfied with mediocre playoff performances.

The rest of us will look for changes to the team to be made so they can continue the history of excellence we've come to expect since 1997.

I would agree with this if we had core players who still had room to grow, but we basically have 1 forward (Brunner) and 1 defenseman (Smith) who can appreciably improve as the year goes on. Everyone else is not going to get much better and is more likely to get worse simply due to age.

I would be much happier watching this "throw away year" if I got to watch guys like Tatar and Nyquist grow as NHL players, and/or watch players we had acquired in the last year (or two) who were going to be a part of the core for years to come.
