Don't think I advocated anything with that post.

I think it's well established what my point of view is as far as what management should do.

with all the different pov's i dont know them all. iirc you thought the caps should sell at the deadline last season and if thats correct, id guess you think similar now.

If we're going to suck this year before a massive rebound the next (when everyone's heads are back on straight), I guess a short season is the one to do it. At least get me MacKinnon please...we need a highly skilled Canadian forward.

It is, the excuse (and a legit one) being that they haven't had enough time with Oates. I loved the high octane BB Caps...
after the Habs upset they panicked and ruined a great offensive team by over tweaking, too many system and coaching changes

Bingo.

Then go after a Giordano/Yandle/Vancouver defenseman in the summer, and the team is suddenly much more well-rounded and deep.

I'm telling you, finish 30th, take MacKinnon 1st or 2nd, take OEL in the inevitable dispersal draft. Boom.

Giordano has been on my wish list forever. Perfect defenseman to round out our defense. Hopefully the Calgary management is smitten enough with Wideman and Brodie, and decides to keep Bouwmeester, so Gio ends up being the odd man out.

If not him, then see if Hjalmarsson is available in the off-season.

Because finishing last on purpose will do psychological wonders for this already fragile team.

And FYI - finishing last will not guarantee MacKinnon.

I didn't say finish last on purpose. In fact, if they tried to do it on purpose they'd probably fail their way into the playoffs.

That game--

was a feel gooder, for sure.

If I closed my eyes a little bit, I could even see Gabby back there behind the bench, and it felt like Knuble scored that winner from Backs.

That was the never say die Caps from 2009.

That was fun, I cant lie.

Now what's next, that the balm that is Florida goes away for a while?

Yes it did.

Its starting to get a bit interesting and a win over Tampa would really get the snowball rolling downhill.

Getting Laich back to take Wolski's spot would be a huge boon.

Kundratek doesn't suck like I thought. He is fun to watch skate.

4-2-1 with the good luck charm in the lineup.

Kundratek looked good on the PP when Ovie was out. I did not know he was that good at passing.

Kundratek is definitely good on the PP, but I don't think he's been very good defensively.

He's been decent defensively. Nothing glaringly bad that stands out. He plays limited minutes (like 14 a game). I'd keep him around.

He's very young but hasn't looked awful at all. He has been better than Poti or Hamrlik this year and I agree with him getting the nod over those vets.

Ribeiro is one crafty player. Very shifty.

Its nice to see chemistry developing between Ovi and Ribs. They'll keep working together and we'll see better goals come off of that line. Kinda like Backstrom and Ovi circa 2009/2010.

Kundratek is a quality PP specialist and pretty good at starting the breakout. But he's not a great presence defensively. Not awful, and he certainly hasn't looked Carlson bad, but he's been outmatched. Of our regulars on defense, nobody has a worse GA/60, and that's while he faces the easiest competition on the team with the highest percentage of offensive zone starts among our regulars.

Is he an NHL talent? Sure, in a specialized/limited role. For a team that either uses 7 defensemen regularly (Tampa) or basically uses five defensemen at even strength (Rangers) he could be a useful PP specialist. Maybe his defensive game can improve in the future, but personally, I can't wait until Orlov is back.

Granted, he's still miles better than some other players we've had on our blueline (Sloan, Collins, etc).

Honestly Kundratek seems to be playing better and better. He's a little frail, but I like his skill set. Surprised honestly and he could easily regress, but he's played a lot better than I expected.

I think Kundratek is a prime candidate to be offseason trade bait.

I know it's just me but a lineup I'd at least like tried would be

Back to............

Alzner - Carlson

Poti / Hamrlik - Green

Poti / Hamrlik - Kundratek

I like Kundratek but he's only in because he plays RD.

The above has not even been tried so I'd like to see what it could add offensively. Poti and Hamrlik are more creative offensively. The Caps don't play the Panthers every night. Or...............

Alzner - Green

Hamrlik / Poti - Carlson (maybe one of those vets can bring Carlson around)

Hamrlik / Poti - Kundratek (Orlov and Kundratek are both on record saying they liked Hamr with them)

Poti and Hamrlik have been awful this year. Poti I can understand since he hasn't played in a couple years. Hamrlik is running on fumes.

Not sure why you would put them in over Schultz and Erskine who have both done OK and are more physical (yes even Schultz) than either of those two. They aren't any slower than them either.
