Marc Methot as a prospect

Was Marc Methot ever considered to have 1st pairing potential? Drafted 6th round and has kind of surprised alot of people.

playing with karlsson will do that.

in junior, he always had good size and was pretty tough. when you look at that london team, you can see why he was scouted and maybe warranted some attention.

To be honest people really aren't half kidding saying Karlsson - pylon is a good pairing. Methot is just a steady player, does his job, definitely a top 4 who likely had a difficult time to shine on a team like Columbus (everyone tends to look worse than they are on a poor team).

Can't answer the question but he as surprised me with his play. Rarey makes a bad pay, and an upgrae so far over Kuba who although he was steady was prone to the occassional brain fart.

Anyone surprised with Methot's play hasn't been paying attention.

He was a 2nd pairing defensive defenseman with good skating and a willingness to sacrifice the body his last season in Columbus.

Luckily, for us, Bryan Murray appears to have been paying attention.

Not afraid to admit I havent watched a whole of Columbus or paid much attention to Methot when I have, so I wasnt really sure what to expect so It has been a nice surprise.

Just like Kuba isn't a top pairing Dman, Methot isn't either. He's a good player though, but you'd have known that had you follwed him.

I think Marc has been really solid so far this season. He took a unnecessary penalty yesterday which has been the first real mistake hes done so far at the Sens based on what ive seen this season. Im glad Murray took him in.

I just don't understand how more fans didn't know more about him. This guy is a tank, he's huge, he hits, he's great positionally, he's smart with the puck. What the heck happened? Surely it isn't because he was in Columbus, people still watch the BJs when their team plays them, no?

So far, this has been the singular best addition to the team in recent memory. Second pairing D-man my hiney, this kid is a top pairing guy for sure.

Not having seen much of Methot previously, ive been very surprised at his level of play.
Skates well, passes well, moves the puck well both passing and skating. Good hockey IQ.
Frankly im a little shocked and very happy.

Marc Methot is just basking in the glorious-ness of Sir Erik Jebediah Karlsson.

Marc plays a simple game, and he works very hard to do the little things right. He reminds me of a young Adam Foote. Its a good fit putting him with Karlsson.

Letting Vanek by isn't the best defensive strategy. I'd say it was a decent penalty.

I remember him playing for the World Championships but that's about it.

Not a lot of coverage on the Blue Jackets I'm afraid. It was the Nash show and that's about it.

It was interesting for us to follow Antoine Vermette for awhile.

Playing with Karlsson makes him look a lot better than he is, but from what I have seen so far I think he's unquestionably a top 4 defenseman.

I would still not consider him a first pairing D in his own right, but apparently he can hold his own and wing it with a great partner, so that`s overachieving for his draft position either way.

Dougie will prolly go on a rant soon enough about this. But all things considered, it's not Rick Nash, and Dougie will never let his baby go.

That's where that fresh smell of "Average" was coming from...

Local media treating him as a blazing fast skater and the best positional defensmen in the league; you know you're overrated when Don Brennan includes you in a regular section of his game-column blurbs.

He's ok, but as stated previously a random picking of HFBoarders could basically do the same thing he does (Have puck? Pass puck to EK. No EK? Head off for a line change.).

As others have stated, I think a lot of the credit goes to Karlsson.
Similar situation with Komisarek in Montreal when he played with Markov.

Not saying Methot isn't a good d-man, but I think any solid stay-at-home D would look like a top pairing guy with EK at his side.

Done. It was not so long ago perhaps the first Sens game on Sportsnet during intermission. Expressed confidence in Methot saying something along the lines of (and don't quote me on this) "I drafted him, I knew he'd be great with Karlsson." Can't say he's been wrong.

I think that's a gross oversimplification of Methot's game in Ottawa to date.

No doubt he's benefitted playing with Karlsson but he's been on another level defensively in his own right, breaking up plays, forcing things to the outside and, yes, being in position. The guy has been a rock on defense.

The blazing fast skater thing I don't get but he really is a very good one and I've also been impressed with his transitional game on the whole. Nice, crisp passes out of his zone (not all to Karlsson) and can control the puck quite well.

He's supremely indecisive offensively and that's the only area I think he's really struggled with.

So far so good.
