Just finished 18 holes and I came home to see the game cancelled. Then I looked at some pictures online and just wow, what a mess you guys are in.

Take things easy and don't strain your backs shoveling.

So DON'T. It isn't worth it.

I am not supposed to either (fractured my back years a go). Sometimes when I do stuff that I am not supposed to do my legs go numb..Then I remember and stop.

Take care all. Don't over do. Get your kids or friends to help.

What was he thinking? That's sad, but incredibly stupid too.

That's how the other death happened, too.

Some people just don't know/think to clear their exhaust pipes before sitting in the car. He could have been trying to warm up, or charging a phone...who knows.

Sad .

People need to be smarter. There were so many warnings about being careful.

I remember well many cold nights.

Stay warm and I hope you have power back soon.

If you can do it invest in a stand by generator. The peace of mind is worth it.

this year I got the snowblower. Thank god or I would not have got out of my house. And a pellet stove. next year is the generator to power the well pump for water, pellet stove for heat. And then I would be a happy guy.

Miserable day. Brothers truck blew a hydraulic hose, got that fixed in the driveway and he plowed the heavy stuff. Still spent all day with a shovel. Still no power, temp inside was 49 when I left about an hour ago. At my moms place now, waiting until her boyfriend shows and leaving instantly. Considering a hotel tonight. Both parents are miserable to be around I feel like an angry teen again.

Build my house faster please!!

Agreed. What a stupid comment by him. Someone buy that man a sticker or a medal.

Safety first, and there was just too much to do. Smart decision.

Just got in myself. Close to 3 ft of snow where I live. Took my snowmobile out and couldnt believe how deep it was, floating all over, felt like i was deep powder riding up in upstate NY.

I lost power 5 times in 7 years for 4-8 days ...usually in the dead of WInter.

I had $$ put aside for hardwood floors but after the Haloween snow storm in 2011 I spent the $$ on a Generac. You all will remember we had no Winter in 2011 . My neighbor said it was because I installed the generator.

Anyway we lost power for over 2 days because of hurricane Sandy and it was excellent to not have to worry. It starts up every Sunday and runs 10 min. to check itself.

I still want those floors though.

I'm still not going into work. My corporate stooge of a boss has been trying to argue that I'm "essential personnel" since yesterday at noon.

I'm not (essential or even critical). Even then private retail such as hardware (my gig), gas, food markets (not restaurants) are under the "critical personnel" in order to provide "operations" of the facility. It's a teir down from hospital, police and other such positions. Either way I'm critical nor essential to the place, it's management that is . I even called the governor's office and the state police. My particular job at the store is not critical to its operation. I can't open the store, unlock the doors, activate registers, ring a purchase up, handle cash, turn off alarms, I don't have a single key (key-carrier as it's referred to).

I asked the staties if I slide my truck into a snow bank and gave them my position at the store as the reason, they'd arrest me.

Yet the first statement out of either corporate shill was "you're essential". One even went to the extent of saying he heard Governor Patrick say it. Which is a flat out lie, he never once mentioned anything about private retail being "essential". In fact the only mention of anything of that ilk was from the head of MEMA and his caveat was that if you were needed to "open the store".

I understand these guys are under immense pressure and probably have all their eggs in one basket (retirement, career, mortgage), but I consider risking my life, limb, wallet and freedom through disingenuous coercion, very serious.

When I worked at the VA I was essential, I worked in the kitchen, patients need to eat. But during snow emergencies the clerks, HR, even some of housekeeping didn't come in, nor did they have to. Hell the dieticians didn't even come in, no need for any radical changes in a single day. Never mind a travel ban which is even more restrictive.

end rant....../

Sorry had to get that off my chest.
you know what it's completely screwed up that the government gets to make that call instead of your bosses; they should be the sole arbiters of whether you, their employee, gets in to work

you work at their pleasure, not at the governments

this is why governments shouldn't get involved in infrastructure or public works

we have as well. Hurrican sandy knocked out our power for 5 days. We stayed a few nights here at my brothers (he never seems to lose power) and a few nights at my brother-in-laws house in Carver (that one is out as well this time)
