The holes that we can't fill through existing prospects/young players include a #1 centre and potentially a #1 defense man if Rielly doesn't become the next Letang/Keith.

"Too many holes"? Hardly. We just need patience.

Not an elite #1, but very good #2.
Although we would lack a true #1, would be deep down the middle with ROR, Kadri, Grabovksi and McClement. I would suggest the Bruins didnt have a true elite #1 centre when they won the cup.

Possible Kessel trades. I can see a fit with a few teams, but a 2013 first rounder is a must as part of any deal given the quality of this draft. What teams couldn't use Kessel, a legit first line winger, potential 30 goal scorer with underrated passing skills?

Sens: Robin Lenher/Mika Zibanejad + 2013 first rounder (24th*)

Lehner, 21 (AHL) 17-7(w-l) 1.79gaa (2nd) .948sv% 3so
Zibanejad, 19 (NHL - 2012) 5gp 1g 2a 3pts +1
(AHL - 2012) 23gp 4g 7a 11pts

Leafs get a top goalie or a top center prospect and a pick in the upper 20's (Zykov, Hartman, Horvat, Domi, Hagg, Fucale?). Sens look absolutely deadly offensively when Spezza comes back.

New Jersey: Adam Henrique + 2013 first rounder (25th*)

Henrique, 22 (NHL - 2012) 4gp 2g 1a 3pts EVEN 2pim
(NHL - 2011) 74gp 16g 35a 51pts +8 7pim

Jersey needs offense to replace loss of Parise. Leafs get a late first-rounder(Zykov, Hartman, Horvat, Domi, Hagg, Fucale?) and a very good young player.

Minnesota: Jonas Brodin + 2013 first rounder (12th*)

Brodin, 19 (NHL -2012) 6gp 0g 2a 2pts -2 2pim
(AHL - 2012) 9gp 2g 2a 4pts +2 4pim

Prodigal son Kessel goes home to Minny, Leafs get a top defensive prospect and a mid first-rounder (Mantha, Erne, Nurse, Zadorov, Gauthier, Pullock, Morrissey).

Phoenix: OEL + 2013 first rounder (15*) for Kessel + Franson/Gunnarson

OEL, 21 (NHL - 2012) 10gp 2g 5a 7pts EVEN 4pim
(NHL - 2011) 82gp 13g 19a 32pts EVEN 32pim

Leafs get poor man's Lidstrom to pair with Reilly plus a mid first-rounder (Mantha, Erne, Nurse, Zadorov, Gauthier, Pullock, Morrissey), Phoenix gets a scoring threat they desperately need (stats not withstanding)

Phoenix isn't trading OEL for another soft winger. They have enough of those at it is.

I hope the Leafs don't give up a major asset(s) for a d-man yet. I hope Nonis will wait a couple of years to see what we have in guys like Gardiner, Rielly, Finn, etc. Any of these player could turn into a top pairing defenseman, and would allow Phaneuf to play a more effective stay-at-home game.

Leafs management should be thinking centres, centres, centres and more centres. I'm not convinced that the Leafs will have a top ten pick in this draft, and this team desparately needs a franchise #1 centre. If they're not able to draft one this year, I think the only way to get one is to trade for an NHL ready centre prospect who has #1 potential. If this gets done via a Kessel trade, then so be it, but it needs to get done. If Gardiner, Rielly and Finn turn out to be top four defensemen, you trade one for a young centre. That's the beauty of having organizational depth at a cetain position.

In each of these you're missing the 3rd piece. Henrique and Brodin are good examples of NHL-ready pieces that would return, along with a late 1st and a prospect. As for OEL, it won't happen.

If Phx is moving a dman its Yandle due to his salary. Not a chance OEL is moved

Per Dreger: Kessel trade a possibility

Per Dreger: Kessel trade a possibility

Indicates price/return being a top 6 F and high pick.

Is this new; or based off the rumour from yesterday that Nonis' was fielding offers?

I hope he meant top 3 F and high pick.

Dreger and Nonis are tight right?

Maybe Nonis got him to put this out there to see what would come back

Very possible.

Nonis wouldn't be doing his job if he wasn't listening to offers on anyone. You need to make deals that will make this club better, for now and the future. If that means moving Kessel now, for the right price, so be it.

Per Dreger's Twitter:

" "Possibility", but no fire sale. Frankly, doubt it happens this season. Asking price would be at least top 6 and high pick "

Not any kind of trade rumour.

If we can unload the "luxury" of having to pay a premium to Kessel as a UFA (or have him bolt), these are the type of moves you want to make.

Unfortunately, the return won't be nearly as good as we gave up in the first place (i.e. Potential franchise forward, in terms of upside, and legitimate top 6 at 19- Seguin, Potential franchise d-man upside- Hamilton, and under the radar bottom 6- Jared Knight).

I actually think now is the time for Nonis to put his blueprint on the team. If he can change the culture of this team by going after a guy like (ROR- Avs, Ovy + Forsberg in a Phaneuf/Kessel swap) and maximize the existing value that Kessel still has, this could be a brilliant start to his tenure. I just hope he isn't hesitant on making the move, as his past history has indicated- he's gun shy.

If we do trade him, we better get Getzlaf

First line of JVR-Getzlaf-Lupul would be absolutely lethal.

Salary cap and teams finances will play a big part in potential Kessel deal. Min can't afford him due to cap. PHX doesn't have $$ (and OEL is more valuable. The only team that looks like a fit is Nsh. NJ isn't trading 1st with them losing their pick next yr. SJ, Chi, Phi I don't see them needing him and trading lots of pieces could hurt their depth. Honestly only team to me that looks like a fit is Nsh

Not the first time that has happened... Burke did it with Kabby

Nonis must know that he needs an overpayment for Kessel or his job will always be questioned.

Nonis and Dreger are 3rd cousins, could be Nonis is drumming it interest?

Regardless this shouldn't be a surprise that Kessel is likely to be moved before the deadline, I said this as much months agoi, we discussed it, most agreed if he isn't going to be extended, if Nonis gets a fair offer, he's gone.

GMGM doesn't move picks. I remember when he traded 1st for Brouwer he said he doesn't like moving 1st but did because that draft was very weak so he'd didnt think they would get a player that would be valuable. Now that thy might be lottery team I think chances of him moving it are slim to none

in a few years when Kessel has a 50 goal season leaf fans will be pissed we traded him for a 2nd liner and a draft pick.

If kessel is we definitely need quality coming back not quantity. Definitely use the M.Richards trade as a benchmark.
