Oilers were already missing two centers, and now this:

Quote:
Ryan Rishaug ‏@TSNRyanRishaug

Nugent Hopkins isn’t on ice
No report of injury yet.

UPDATE:

Quote:
Ryan Rishaug ‏@TSNRyanRishaug

RNH not skating. Was injured first shift in OT. If he doesn’t go, looks like Arcobello gets a shot with Hall and Eberle, Gagner line same
I believe that means the Top 3 centers are out: RNH, Horcoff, and Bellanger.

3 of the top 4. Gagner is still there.

But still.

Should be easy. Let's win a few and get above .500.

RNH officially out tonight. He's been cold but still a huge boon for us.

No reason to lose this tonight.

Remember this post later tonight.

Sure they're hurting, but Dallas still gives up a ton of shots. You're going to lose if Hall, Eberle, and Yakupov not to mention a guy on defense like Schultz are getting multiple opportunities on net.

The rotation begins:

Quote:
Mike Heika ‏@MikeHeika

Looks like Philip Larsen could be in tonight. Pairs at morning skate are: Dillon-Robidas, Goligoski-Daley, Oleksiak-Larsen.

Stars forward lines are: Morrow-Benn-Jagr, Eriksson-Roy-Ryder, Smith-Eakin-Vincour, Nystrom-Fiddler-Roussel. That's how they ended Monday.

*Sigh* I know. Just trying to be optimistic about this team since I've been extremely cynical recently.

Let me rephrase: if Kari comes to play, we'll win.

This might be the happiest I've been about our lines all year. The 3rd line is set, the D who should be playing are. Morrow in the top 6 sucks but with Whitney out and that line producing last game, it's a minor complaint.

Not in favor of Benn going back to wing. Love the idea of 3 lines that can score centered by Benn, Roy, and Eakin.

10 games in and we finally have the right lines (other than morrow, but whatever, hopefully whitney comes back soon)

I don't care who the wingers are.

Dallas is a better team with Benn-Roy-Eakin-Fiddler than they are with Roy-Eakin-Fiddler-Roussel.

I'm OK with Benn moving to wing if they are re-signing Roy and adding another Top 9 center. Fiddler isn't it though. He's playing really well on the PK, and I think he'll have a ton of value eating up most of the PK time while playng 4th line ES minutes.

I do believe Dallas will build off of their solid effort against Colorado. I think Roy showed some rust after missing 5, but we know he looked active before the injury. I think between the Roy line and Eakin line, Dallas will get plenty of secondary scoring on any given night.

I like their chances, but it always rides on Kari. I just don't think this team with the current players is every going to consistently cut down on the scoring chances and shots. This isn't a well oiled machine like San Jose or Chicago. They have holes I can live with as the young guys grow into their roles.

Gully strikes.

Heika "Glen Gulutzan just confirms that Alex Goligoski is a healthy scratch tonight."

Woah. O_O

I mean, he's been bad.... but I don't support scratching the poor guy. He has to try and play through this.

Maybe Gulutzan really is so simple that he's looking at this as a pure size equation. "If I bring in Larsen, I have to scratch another small D-man."

Spoke too soon. We can never have the optimal lineup. Will never happen.

Agreed completely. Benn-Roy-Eakin is SOLID center depth. Eakin has offensive upside and could be a 2nd line player, that's exactly who you want in your 3rd #C. Also Benn needs to get better at faceoffs, and only experience can do that. His continued development hinges on being played at C.

Wow @ Goose being scratched.

At this point I can't view this as anything but good news. The guy has been awful, and maybe he needs something to light a fire under his ass.

Plus it at least tries to send a message that it's not just the rookies/youngest players who will be held accountable.

In some ways though, I think Goligoski is just broken, and we'll probably look back and say that we traded Neal+ for a bag of nothing. (And Gully still sucks for not having done something like this much earlier)

This almost seems like a passive-aggressive swipe at Nieuwendyk.

You want me to play Larsen?

Fine, but I'm scratching your prized acquisition, your "core" building block.

I know he has been bad, but Rome has been completely useless from what we've seen so far. Either way, hopefully he can fight through this.

So how many times the Yakupov blow by Rome tonight?
