I thought I'd post this also. Say you had the 20th overall pick and the equivalent pick in subsequent rounds. If you followed my list this is how your draft would have turned out.
2012
20 - Charles Hudon, LW, Chicoutimi Saguenéens, LHJMQ
NHL: Scott Laughton
CSS: Olli Maatta
From a Knights stand point... Horvat is so low it's not even funny. Remi Elie will be in the top 5 rounds. Liberati is a question mark to be drafted IMO this year.
I see alot of name that are in the wrong spots. JMO

Horvat is ranked a little lower because of his even strength production so far. He's been mostly a special teams guy.
Size is there for Elie, not sure about the rest.

Yeah, although Jones would be worth the n'1 spot in some drafts, I still think teams are getting better value from players like MacKinnon, Drouin and Barkov in this draft. All 3 are showing elite potential at forward and I find there's more value in getting these guys before Jones. Nothing against Jones btw.

Well, although I follow the Q more than the other leagues, all my rankings are based on stats not my opinion. This year is exceptional for the Q and I still feel some players aren't getting the recognition they should like Desrosiers in net.

Stats as in data, not stats as in pure n' of points. So, size is factored in, style of play of the team a player is on, previous seasons are also factored in etc.
Horvat maybe the most complete forward in the draft. You want him to kill penalties done, the London PP works when he's out there, want him to shutdown another teams top line done, the kid does it all. He isn't just a special teams guy.

Guys you have to read before posting: "Time for new rankings. All my rankings are made based on stats. Feel free to ask any questions.
Note that this is how the numbers see the players becoming from "best" to "worst" and not where they end up being drafted."
It is what it is...somebody has gone through a lot of effort to develop a statistical analysis based on his only own #'s.
It's pretty interesting....should be taken with a grain of salt, but a good conversation piece nonetheless.
-------
One discussion point for me is Vincent Dunn and why he is so much higher than a guy like Ryan Hartman....is that because the QMJHL has a higher weight than the OHL this year?
Seem like fairly comparable players, with similar size, production, and style....

Awaiting a reply Mathletic.
Main reason would be that Dunn is almost a year younger than Hartman. Although Hartman is having a tad better season in 2012-2013l the projected career curve for Dunn is a bit higher as compared year-for-year, that is, comparing Hartman's first 2 seasons in the USHL/USA NTDP to Dunn's first 2 years in the Q, Dunn ends up with a higher ceiling.
The OHL has carried a heavier weight on stats for all the years I have data for, including this year. That said the Q isn't that far behind.

Statistical evaluation is tricky business. It helps but it's not always what makes a prospect good. Justin Azevedo outscored Steven Stamkos in his draft year.

Whats your point?
No one said it was? Just read what the OP stated... It's not meant to be serious evaluation of prospects, just an interesting read/information based solely on numbers!.. Not the be-all end-all.
Statistical evaluation is tricky business. It helps but it's not always what makes a prospect good. Justin Azevedo outscored Steven Stamkos in his draft year.
Not that I'll ever argue that stats are the be-all and end-all in hockey. However, you bring up a good example as to why statistical analysis is important and how much value there would be for a team to build a solid data analysis department. Stats above all else help you put in context what a player does in order to avoid comparing apples and oranges. Just in the example you gave, you're comparing a 19 year old guy to a 17 year old. Pretty bad start, and we haven't even gotten into more advanced stats.
That said, through regression analysis you can easily see that teams don't go much deeper than goals, assists, points, TOI and size to evaluate their players when it comes to stats. You can pretty much predict a player's salary with those variables.
