[LAK/NJD] Andrei Loktionov to Devils for 2013 5th Round Pick
You'd be very lucky to get a player of his caliber in the 5th round, the Kings did but now they trade him for another 5th rounder. That's like winning the lottery and buying lottery tickets with your winnings
Oh well, there wasn't any room for him on the Kings. He needs wingers who can score and the Kings don't have that in their bottom 6 and if a top 6 center goes down Carter just takes that spot, so there was realistically no way he'd ever make it with the Kings. He can play wing but his strengths are as a playmaker so he's best suited as a center.
I thought he'd fetch at least a mid round pick but he hasn't shown much in the past few years on the team and his AHL numbers aren't what they should be. Add to that the Russian factor (even if he seems committed to the NHL) and him asking for a trade I can see how the value is low. Good buy-low deal for the Devils though.
Or maybe LA didn't want to give a possible NHL roster player to a fellow Stanley Cup contender and would rather give it to NJ who are less of a threat than NY is.. That is of course assuming the Kings can put it back together.
Eh, ok

Smallish center. Good vision and hands. More of a playmaker than scorer. Can be shifty but easily knocked off the puck. A little fragile so far in his career. Good potential, could really be a steal if played in the right circumstances.
Sounds a lot like Tedenby. At this point, there's really no risk from a Devils standpoint, so I'm fine with it. We need forwards so badly everywhere, so it's a good acquisition for that reason.
He only has two options basically on NJ, 4th line wing/center or 1st line wing with Kovalchuk/Zajac. Going off that the Devils already tried Matteau/Tedenby up with those two I could see Loktionov getting a chance for 1 or 2 games with them.
I hope he isn't a Tedenby-esque player.
He's a slower version of Tedenby but with better IQ. So you take one of Tedenby's strengths away (skating) and take one of his weaknesses away (IQ). Similar weaknesses across the board, besides that.

We have to make roster space. I wouldnt be surprised if Matteau goes back to junior.
Oh okay, I just wasn't sure if he wanted traded so he could play in the NHL, but if the Devils intend on making him an NHL player, then that answers my question.

I could be wrong of course. But Matteau has been watching the last few games from the stands. If he plays in another game we waste one year of his ELC. So I assume he will go back to give Loktionov a chance.
Good luck Loki. Here's hoping you are not the next Purcell, Moulson, Boyle......
He's gonna be better than them, he may be small but he can sure make plays he will fit and do well since he can pass and shoot so he doesn't need to carry the puck at all
I don't like the return the Kings got but then again the Devils will now have to worry about him running back to the KHL if he doesn't get his way. In the end, it could be a low risk high reward for NJ.
Seems like an odd trend of these Mid 2000's LA picks going to the wayside.
Loktionov, Moller, Hickey. Voynov turned out to be the only real "sleeper" of their picks.
Wait, WHAT???
Let's see.... Some bum named Quick was taken in the 3rd round, Martinez in the 4th, Dwight King was a 4th (I think), Nolan (7th), Clifford (2nd), Muzzin (FA), Drewiske (FA). That's a pretty decent haul for mid round picks and Overage Free Agents on one team.
