A fifth round pick is market value for Lokti. He has third-line Center upside, but has struggled adjusting to the NHL.

Should also be noted that his contract runs out at the end of the year, and it's very possible he bolts to Russia.

I wish Lokti all the best -- hope he succeeds in NJ.

I think this was a case of Lou doing a great job and picking up a solid NHL ready skilled young player for a low price *and* DL doing a solid for a player who has done everything that was asked of him by the Kings. I think that AL was worth a late 3rd or 4rth rd pick but this is likely only one part of a deal so no biggie.

Either way good for Loki and I think NJ fans will be happy with him. Solid skills but not a true 3rd line center. Hope you find room for him and that he makes it.

Yikes. Got half way through the first page and had to quote this post for how terrible it is.

Seems like a fair trade.

There was the threat of he and Voynov going back to the KHL a season ago. Voynov earned a roster spot, and Loktionov lost all hope of his when we made the Richards trade. The low price is because his contract is expiring and if he doesn't make an NHL roster, he maybe off to Russia, like Filatov.

Best of luck to him. He has a great set of hands and is a shifty player, but his size will always be a knock against him. If he can find his niche, he can be a pretty good playmaking second line center. Russian potential

Wouldn't mind him on the 3rd line with Clarkson or Zubrus.

He is more of a top 6 or bust prospect. He is a pure skill player and cannot grind things out on the bottom 6, he has no grit whatsoever to his game and is smallish in stature. Not very physical at all. He needs finishers on his line as he is a talented passer, but doesn't really have a keen shot of his own. If you pair him with a good sniper, they could do some real damage.

Decent return for a guy that wasn't exactly a top six player even for the Monarchs anymore.

Linden Vey pretty much sealed Loki's doom. Vey has outplayed Loki all over the ice.

We don't really have a grinding line. We just kind of tack on a grinder to every line (Zubrus/Clarkson/Carter) and it helps the smaller, weaker guys out.

If he's put on the 3rd line, he'll be expected to play at least 12 minutes and it will be used as a scoring line. If anything, that's the 4th line of Carter-Gionta-Bernier.

So we just traded for another Tedenby? Sweet.

Good trade for Devs though.

Yeah that theoretical Devils third line would be Josefson-Loki-Clarkson

That's not really a grinding line.

couple things to note here:

for the kings:
1. lokti was a 5th round pick. you're getting back a 5th for a 5th
2. he demanded a trade and was unhappy, which means you give the kings zero leverage
3. he needs to play center, and there was no room for him with kopi/richards. his skill set is not meant for 3rd/4th line duties, and the kings have stoll and fraser for that.
4. we keep hearing about potential, but in his opportunities, his #'s in the nhl and ahl have not been too impressive
5. may end up losing him for nothing at the end of the season. his contract was up and had khl $ leverage
6. added another pick (3 total from the westgarth trade). could be used in this Year's draft or part of package to help add whatever we may need at the deadline.

for the devils:
1. low risk for potential

also, comparing this to the purcell, boyle, moulson, etc. deals, isn't quite the same. we simply don't have a roster spot for him. good luck to lokti, but once you demanded a trade, you took all leverage away from the kings. teams knew you wanted out and that there was no roster spot for you. if his demands aren't public, maybe the kings and lokti get what they both want (higher return and a move, respectively). dean did a good job of getting what he could, under these circumstances (the equal pick he was taken at).

He's around. Played a game, but we've got a defensive log jam.

how's your Center depth? Loktionov is best fit at 2nd line center.

I pretty much see it like this.

1) Russian factor, better to get something for him then nothing.
2) Didn't work out for the kings and they drafted him in 5th round so they pretty much get a 2nd chance with the 5th round pick again to try and make it work out.

Do they plan on moving one of Henrique or Zajac? I would think not. Considering that Loktionov would be wasted if he's not in a top six role, my guess is that he's going to wind up back in Russia in the not so distant future.

Of course not. Zajac and Henrique are going no where
