I don't see CBGB being broken up anytime soon so the move, unless he is going to be our 3rd line winger just seems so odd. Why do we need a "slower Tedenby"? We already have a Tedenby and ours is underwhelming to say the least.

I just don't get this at all.
He's essentially a more polished Tedenby at this point. There's virtually no risk, but the rewards are endless.

If all else fails, he doesn't do well and we give up a 5th round pick, that will seldom make an impact. He's much more likely to do it then that guy.

Like I said earlier, it's just giving us another option to try out before we have to make a move out of desperation like trade a defender. I would've at least liked to know that we exhausted all of the options in our system we could've instead of jumping the gun. In this case, we've given Tedenby, JJ, Butler, Matteau, and Anderson their chance. JJ and Butler have stood out and have played accordingly. Loktionov will likely be that one last option.

Third line tomorrow:

Carter-Gionta-Bernier

Loktionov was sent to Albany for the time being.

I'm not trying to say that Loktionov is a bad player. It's just that even with the low risk I don't know how he is going to fit into our system unless he can play wing. If he is a "more polished Tedenby without the speed" then he shouldn't have any problem at wing.

Now if we are talking about packaging a defender - to me it's looking more and more like Tallinder + Tedenby + a pick or perhaps another AHL level defensive prospect. But that's another topic.

he's worth more than a 5th that's for sure...not many 5th rounders get to play a handful of games

and the potential is still there

3rd rd pick wouldve been perfect

so NJ won this deal hands down, a 5th isnt worth much at all

I don't think the return is that surprising. It's hard to get anything of value based on potential when you're about to turn 23 and the team keeps finding ways to keep you off of it. That's not to say he sucks, but at the NHL level, Loki hasn't shown to be anything more than a fringe player. He'll obviously get more chances now

I think that if he's an upgrade over Josefson then the Devils win this deal. Josefson is a nice player, but he's a blackhole offensively.

Surprised by the return, I know the guy hasn't proven much at the NHL level but I figured there would be a handful of teams interested which should have driven the price up a bit.

In the Loktionov value thread I compared his situation to Grabovski's in MTL. Grabo had a bit more NHL success and a better AHL season before being dealt to Toronto, and landed Greg Pateryn and a 2nd. Based off of that I thought Loktionov could fetch a similar prospect and a 3rd, or maybe just a 2nd or 3rd. My three way prosposal had Loktionov to Ottawa, Bishop to CLB and Goloubef+Ott 3rd to LA.

A little radical but:

Zubrus-Zajac-Kovalchuk
Elias-Josefson-Clarkson
Loktionov-Henrique-Butler
Carter-Gionta-Bernier

The more I look at that, the more I just think it's not going to happen.

I actually thought Lokti was going to fetch a 4th at most, but I guess I'm not that surprised at the 5th. He just wasn't going to play with us. He can't play wing and he needs players around him that are going to score.

IF he sticks around after the season and doesn't go to russia. If he starts to play bigger than he actually is. Lots of ifs involved.

I've said this in the kings forums and I truly believe he is too small to be successful in the NHL but will flourish with a bigger rink overseas where there is less hitting needed. I wish him the best and hope he does succeed, wherever he goes.

He can't play wing, at least hasn't shown he can successfully yet. He needs to be center to have a shot at success.

Josefson has played a bit on the wing with Zajac and Kovalchuk this season when the rest of the 4th line is on the bench towards the 3rd. When he has played wing it doesn't seem like he's missed a beat. He isn't any better offensively from the wing, but by no means does the switch make him useless.

I'm not sure I'd like a JJ-Lodi-Butler line, but I wouldn't mind seeing how it'd work out.

Anyways, Like the trade, no real downside to it even if he never cracks the lineup.

What was wrong with this wing play?

A few of your fellow posters said he had a high hockey IQ so you would think a move to wing would be simple for him.

I was really hoping the Kings would make room for him, but knew this was bound to happen soon. I feel like NJ got a great deal here. Congrats Devils fans, I hope he does well for you.

He's also had some rough injuries to his shoulder. Both times he came up the NHL.

Good trade for Lokti and the devils. He's paid his dues with us but couldn't stick, best of luck

He'd be great on our second line when Bolland gets hurt again.

It's like the 3rd time you're saying this. It's all understood now. Enjoy the 5th rounder instead.

People dont understand we have no roster space at the moment. Matteau will be sent back to juniors shortly. Lokti will be called up once we clear up a space.
