GM: 21 Your New Jersey Devils @ Buffalo Sabres, 3pm, MSG +
It has been a little ruff lately, but......
A great Canadian once said:
Kovalchuk agrees:
Professor Pat says team needs more:

If we play the way we played tonight, we’ll snap put of it. We’ll get chances and get goals. You know how it is. When you can’t score goal and you’re losing those games, you start squeezing the stick a bit tighter. We had our opportunities. I had a couple around the net, Travis (Zajac) and Rico (Adam Henrique) had a breakaway at the end there. We’ve just go to bury those.
Creepy Carter reappears....
March 2nd, 3pm:
(10-6-4) (8-12-1)
Another afternoon game? Don't worry, Barista Zubrus has it under control:
Location:
Television:
MSG +, with
Lineups (Subject to change):
DEVILS:
Matteau Loktionov Kovalchuk
Elias Zajac Clarkson
Ponikarovsky Henrique Butler
Carter Gionta Bernier
Alot less of this:
And none of this guy's family: Now Let's all send a special thank you to CITGO and the great people of Venezuela for fueling this thread
So put on your best Zubie beats, drink some coffee, and LETS GO DEVILS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LGD! We absolutely need a victory here. We're slumping and we're playing the lowly Sabres. And are we actually planning on putting Matteau on the first line. Sheesh, at this point maybe he's a first liner in the AHL. I say lines should look like:
Elias-Henrique-Kovalchuk
Ponikarovsky-Loktionov-Clarkson
Matteau-Zajac-Butler
Carter-Gionta-Bernier
Well we really need a top 6 winger. But it would probably have to be a 2nd liner, nothing more. We'd likely have to give up a defenseman and we're pretty thin there. Larsson and Greene have been solid. Fayne has been pretty good, then bleh.
I'd really like to see something tomorrow out of Poni and Zajac. Both of them have been slumping. Although I think Zajac showed some signs of improvement on Thursday, he needs to get back to his old self. Henrique hasn't been playing poorly, in my opinion, but he really needs to get back on the scoresheet.
Take out the frustrations of the last few games tomorrow then move forward. LGD!!!
What better team to take it out than Buffalo. Embarrass and humiliate them on home ice. I hate losing to this piece of garbage team more than losing to the Rangers, and Flyers. I love beating the Rangers and Flyers more than Buffalo, but I hate losing to them more.

Mods- Feel free to merge this with my last post please. I'm having trouble double quoting tonight.
Honestly after looking at the forward lineup from mid-season last year, this group of forwards does not look all that bad, especially when Zubrus comes back. That first line needs to be worked out though.
Big guns get out of their slump and we are back in business.

First line looks pretty bad, imo. It's not that Matteau and Lokti don't have potential, but they have no right to be on any NHL first line right now. It just speaks to how desperate Pete is to get the offense going that he'll put anyone anywhere to try and get some goals.
Definitely need Zubrus back, plus Lou needs to trade for a frickin' top 6 winger. Bring back the sexiness of the Voltron deals and get someone FAST.

I disagree on Loktionov. He's been our best player the last few games. Aside from Kovy, and Patty he probably has closest to a PPG out of anyone though it's only been 5 games. Matteau however BING! My thoughts exactly.

It's not completely out of the realm of possibility that it could work. We had a successful 1st line that included Nick Palmieri for 2/3 of a season, for Christ's sake. I'm not saying that Mattaeu is the long term solution, or that he will even mirror Palmieri in terms of success on that line, but let's not completely discount this little experiment right now. It's not like there are many other options.

While I won't disagree there aren't many options this hasn't worked. Yeah Matteau got his only 2 points on the line with Kovy. How many games did we see Matteau sending missed passes Kovy, and Zajac's way? How many times did we see Matteau missing their passes? A lot, and many times in the offensive zone too.
Feel free to disagree, but I don't know why you don't understand why I think this won't work. Last year when Yayo was hot, and Henrique was struggling I said switch them spaces. I was laughed at, and now I'm being scoffed at for not liking the idea of Matteau with Kovy.
I think I dislike Matteau on the 1st line more than BG disliked Kovy with Parise. BG disliked Kovy and Parise on the same line very much.
