We should look to package him as a part of another deal, because he will most definitely go to Russia if he doesn't play in the NHL this year.
If he knows what's good for him, he'll wait for a opportunity. If he doesn't get a shot by the end of the year, he might bolt, but at the cost of a 5th round pick... I'll live with it if he does leave.
Everyone will be happy to have him available for the playoffs once Barch is on the way out of the line-up.

I would but we need to seem him play on the team at the NHL level before that. I am a bit bummed as I wanted to see what he can offer now, but it seems they don't want Matteau to leave yet, and I guess sending JJ down was out of the question. (they were not going to send Butler or Harrold as neither would clear waivers and its stupid to waste an asset) plus Barch does have regular season uses (especially against the Flyers). Wonder if JJ continues to not put up points if they look to swap them for a few games.

If he's ready to play today, he'll be also for the playoffs, see Baby Gio.
I want to watch him play too but with Barch being unmovable in the regular season, Poni coming back and with our depth there's no room for him yet.
Neither PP nor PK time, he'd get such a minimal ice-time for now here that it's probably better to let him get comfortable in Albany firstly.
I don't blame them for not wanting Mytoe to be sent back down....
I think Pete is going to give it several more games to see if Stefan can show signs of elevating his game further before determining whether he is gone or is remaining for the rest of the season and playoffs.....
That was a short call up. He just doesn't fit with the numbers though. They needed to make room for Poni, and he's the one who makes the most sense to send down.
There's like 35 more games left. If Matteau doesn't stay for the whole season (still a chance he gets sent back before they burn off a year of FA), Loik may still get his chance. There isn't any room for him now while Matteau's still here, and in the middle of Butler's audition.

The year was already burned off. There is a deadline for players to be returned. I think it's March 1 but I'm not 100%.
Maybe they called him up to give him some cash? I mean the pay rate is drastically different... You know, welcome to the organization, here's some moving expenses.
Seriously. He made ten times his salary here in the same time frame...

Pretty sure the team has to pay for all moving expenses and a hotel for 30 days or something anyways.

Does the NHL/AHL pay a daily rate? They get paid bi-weekly but I don't really know how it applies to very short term call ups.

As was discussed in the other thread, a year was burned off the ELC, NOT off the clock to FA yet. That doesn't happen till another couple weeks or so. The former isn't a big deal, Matteau isn't going to make a ton on his second deal anyway but the latter could mean a year earlier of Stefan Sr. talking Jr. into leaving town aka JP with Zach

I thought UFA was age 27 or 7 years in the NHL?
How can a year burn off an ELC without burning a year off the UFA clock?
Edit; Figured it out. Weird though. Do we know the cutoff of a shortened season?
