I'm going to go with a sleeper/homer pick and say Kassian if he can score 40-50 goals in the 2013 calendar year

Luongo should be there and IMO will be the starter. He won it last time and is just as good as he was then.

If he continues to play like he is, the job is his to lose.

Benn-Getzlaf-Perry
Toews-Bergeron-Eberle

Letang-Weber
Keith-Seabrook
Doughty-Pietrangelo

Bouwmeester--can eat minutes, but that's about it
Seabrook--if they want the chemistry with Keith
Giordano--steady and solid, if unspectacular
MacDonald--see Giordano
Boyle--could see it, was there last time around
Bieksa--not sure how well he'd translate to the big ice
Hamonic--too soon?

Really, aside from maybe Campbell or Boyle (or Green, though he might be too one-dimensional), Coburn vs the other guys is pretty much a wash.
Dan Hamhuis is very underrated, he would be considered before Bieksa I would think (unless it was just a RHS you were looking for)

Also just to make another point regarding the defense. Weber, Doughty, Letang, Pietrangelo are all right shooting Dmen. Playing the off-side isn't something all D can do well. If those guys are locks, you need to look at bringing some left shooting guys as well.

Jay the soft Bouwmeester was born to play on the bigger ice surface. He'll be the surprise member on this team.

Keith Weber
Bouwmeester Doughty
Letang Pietrangelo
Hamhuis Boyle

Remember this will be a 25 member team, not 23, it will most likely be agreed once it's made official because it's not easy to have another player flown in if someone's injured prior or something unordinary happens. Therefore there will be 3 goaltenders, 8 defensemen and 14 forwards

He also played with Weber before didn't he?

Hamhuis I could see being very good on big ice actually.

No Bieksa unless the coach instantly realizes that he will need to have a partner who can cover for him.

Also he will drive the entire nation crazy when he decides to make one of his incredibly lazy plays in an elimination game. He can be having a great game, then random incredibly lazy play.

My thoughts on the team:

Claude Giroux - Sidney Crosby - Steven Stamkos
Corey Perry - Jonathan Toews - Jordan Eberle
Martin St. Louis - Joe Thornton - John Tavares
Eric Staal - Patrice Bergeron - Jarome Iginla
Patrick Sharp/Jamie Benn

Shea Weber - Alex Pietrangelo
Kris Letang - Duncan Keith
Drew Doughty - Dan Boyle
Brian Campbell

Roberto Luongo
Carey Price
Cam Ward/Mike Smith/Craig Anderson

Or be having a terrible game then magically score the tying goal with 2 minutes left.

Hamhuis was the leading dman along with Weber in the World Championships before the Olympics, he was absolutely stellar in that tournament. He was also the starring defensemen in 2007 tournament which Canada won. He is a front runner in my opinion. Bieksa has no shot with the amount of right handed players in front of him.

Stanchion for Team Canada?

I think He'd be lousy on the big ice though.

Canada needs to focus on speed, we always lose on the bigger ice surface because we send a slower, lumbering team of trees over there for the sake of "balance" and the other teams exploit us.

I think guys like Eberle, Seguin, etc. should draw in for that reason. Even Hall should be a give a look. Speed, speed, speed, speed.

Great forwards as usual.. could replace some players with equally good players. I think D could be a bit better and I am not at all sure on those goalies..

This list is so much better than Ferraro's

Lou and Price could duel it out for the starter spot. Third spot doesn't matter

Letang/Keith/Boyle/Campbell all play a similar style. I would maybe add a stay at home Dman instead of one of them

Forwards look good too. Maybe Spezza instead of Jumbo Joe(Who was bad last olympics). Mike Richards also played well last olympics so maybe him instead of Iggy. Maybe St Louis? Man there's some tough decisions

The sheer notion of Giroux and Stamkos on the same line makes me excited. Sexually.

This is the closest to what I have in mind.

Maybe some line shuffling. Put Crosby back with Nash and Iginla (replaces J. Staal). Stamkos with St. Louis flanked by Toews. I agree that Eberle is a depth guy and shouldn't make the opening roster.

Don't think Iggy makes it, although I'd love it if he did. He's been to 3, made big contributions in 2 of them, but it's time for more of the next generation to step up.
