Yep this. Corey Crawford may be in the conversation next year. I would take him over MAF at this point, that's for sure.

I think our goaltending is only good, not amazing, but certainly good enough to win with the people we will have up front.

Id put Dubnyk in for expierience for the future, i just think he'll be a go to goalie one day and am I the only one who thinks Luongo is shaky in big games, I know they won but he wasnt great in that game

This pretty well says it all. Price would be #1 if the tourny started right now with some combination of Ward, Luongo, Brodeur, Fleury, Smith or Dubnyk behind him. Right now I'd say:

1) Price
2) Luongo
2b) Brodeur

By this time next season, I could see Smith, Fleury, Ward or Dubnyk pushing one or both of the vets out, but Price is the only Canadian goalie who will be there for sure barring injury.

Edit: Not to nitpick 96 because I agree with everything else you said but Schneider is American, he's from Salem, Massachusetts.

The Oilers defense is terrible.
Reimer is better then Dubnyk right now in every department and stat wise. Dubnyk on the Olympic team is comical at best.

I agree Lou can appear shakey. I think he is still the guy to beat since he won the gold last time.

I will also say that i like price. But Montreal hasn't been in a playoff run in a long time and all you have seen really is what Price can do in regular season.

Id put Fleury or Ward as 3rd goalie.

Looks like a guaranteed gold to me. What do you guys think? Who did I miss?
Others might disagree, but i would not have Taylor Hall and Eberle for Sochi right now. I still am a big proponent of experience, and i would still prefer to have Getzlaf and St. Louis instead of Hall or Eberle . Getzlaf played very good hockey in the 2010 Olympics alongside Perry, and St. louis next to Stamkos makes sense to me,
since St. Louis is playing great hockey right now, and his numbers speak for themselves. James Neal is coming off a 40 goal year last year and has had a great start to this year, and he would be a consideration, alongside Jeff Skinner as well. Do not get me wrong, Eberle and Hall are in the running, but they are not locks to me right now, and i would go with Getzlaf and St. Louis. I agree with you on everything else.

Bad goals yes, goals from beyond half no, thats tommy salo stuff right there, and I don't even want to entertain the thought of that happening on the world stage, let alone in russia.

Luongo gets the start. That's team Canada's MO. However, if he's not playing well, I could see Price taking
over.

Price has not ever out preformed Lu, so I don't see him getting the starting job to begin with.

I would go with Price, Luongo and Fleury if he can find his game again. Cases can be made for Ward, Dubnyk and even Crawford the way he is playing this year.

minus last year's playoffs Fleury has been excellent. Look at his numbers, including this seasons. Some people need to stop judging MAF on one playoff series that clearly was an outlier for both teams.

Also, This thread shows me that Finland, Sweden and the U.S. currently have better options in net than Canada.

The experience factor you are talking about is way overblown in this case. How experienced were the Canadians and Americans in 2010? Not very. They were the two youngest most inexperienced teams at the tournament. A couple of vets there yes who earned their spots on the roster through merit. We don't need under-performing vets just for their experience. Half the team is returning from 2010... that is more than enough experience.

Luongo is coming off a gold medal win, and is still a top 5 goalie in the league. He gets the start, with Price assuming Luongo's 2010 role as the backup ready to go in should Luongo falter.

There is no way I want Cam Ward anywhere near this team. He's completely overrated. Give me Fleury or Mike Smith before him if I have to. Hell I'd even prefer Corey Crawford or Martin Brodeur ahead of Ward.

If the only thing you have that supports Ward is something that happened nearly a decade before the 2014 Olympics, then why not this goalie?

thornton is a thing of the past or what? still playing great hockey, could see him making some down right disturbing plays on a big ice, also wouldnt be against the real fast young guys (hall, duchene) being on this team, will be interesting to see how things unfold next year

Yes, Getzlaf and Perry played great in 2010, but they continue to under-perform in the NHL this season and at this point, unless they turn things around and lead Anaheim to a playoff run (which they still have time to do, of course), I just don't see what value they'd bring to the 2014 team given their play of late and their relatively poor skating on the international ice surface. Its not like they'd be able to exert their dominance down low like they did in Vancouver; the international game doesn't really allow for as much of that. St. Louis, sure, he definitely deserves a spot in my view, should he keep up his performance through next season.

After watching alot of phoenix games because I have a sleep apnea problem, and looking at what he did last year, I think Mike Smith should be Canada's num 2 goalie behind price. He is a huge goalie, that has provided outstanding goaltending for the coyotes last 2 years. I would feel alot more comfortable in the goal medal game with him over luongo or fleury
