This is the first year in a long time where we actually have a better team top to bottom than them. Unfortunately they have Lundy and he's the best in the league...hopefully we can get some early chances and make him work.

When was the last time these teams met when the Isles were ahead in the standings?

Total must-win game tonite. Both teams need the win to really step up in this shortened season.

I predict a 4-2 win. Let go Islanders!!!!

I need this win. Boston is going to get buried in snow and I don't want to stew about a loss to the Rangers during the storm. Get it done boys.

Our depth definitely doesn't blow. With Callahan and Girardi back, we shouldn't have a single scrub in the team. The 3rd line looked great on Tuesday, and Kreider and Miller are ready for the NHL.

Th special teams... Well, we all want Sullivan fired

Isles need to stop this two game losing streak, avoid seeing it turn into their annual long term losing streak.

At the risk of eating crow later tonight I'm calling a strong game from the Grabner-Nielsen-Okposo line. I liked the ease and immediate chemistry between Nielsen and Okposo when re-united for the last game.

Isles 5
Rangers 3

Let's go Isles

Are they back? Haven't read anything about it. Was enjoying watching Rupp/Asham on the third line for a bit. And also loved watching Gilroy and Bickel.

I'm thinking Tavares's line has a huge game, JT loves playing against the Rangers, hopefully a three point game.

Yes, I know it is early in the season, but this is a different season. Games are magnified, streaks are magnified...attitudes have more of an effect on games...
IMHO, this is spot on. Mentally this game is so important. A huge win tonight we see the character of this team take a major upswing. With the ability to bounce back after a defeat and to do it against a major rival is even more of a moral booster.

The Rangers are coming off a bad loss too and are going to be just as energized, if not more so. This game is super important to their season as well. They haven't been doing as well as they thought they would, Hank isn't playing like his normal self and Gaborik hasn't had a point in 4 games. They got to be thinking that a big win tonight and all is forgotten.

Callahan is cleared for contact, Girardi is day-to-day I heard.

Honestly, I see that too, not even kidding. 6-4 win though, 5-1 going into third. ENG.

Career-wise id agree...Marty was my idol as a kid, but right now, Hank is top 3 in the NHL and Marty isnt. Marty is still a very good goalie though...one of the last few who actually relies on reflexes as opposed to taking up space.

With the Rangers' current line up the Islanders have a chance. I'm predicting a win tonight, big game from JT. No Parenteau is going to hurt us in this game though, he used to destroy the Rangers.

Brodeur will end up with the better career, but right now Lundqvist is the superior goalie. Current Brodeur isn't on the same level as Lundqvist, Quick, or Rinne.

Their lineup:

Marian Gaborik-Brad Richards-Taylor Pyatt
Carl Hagelin-Derek Stepan-Rick Nash
Chris Kreider-J.T. Miller-Ryan Callahan
Arron Asham-Jeff Halpern-Darroll Powe

No Girardi or Eminger.

Your out of your mind if you don't think lundqvist is the top goal tender in the NHL.. He's the reigning vezina winner, i hate the dude but you gotta take off the orange and blue glasses.. Brodeur has had a better career but there's no question as to who the better goalie is right now.

They can all be beat. If the Islanders play their game, they can overcome a great goalie. They need to get back to those ugly goals, rebounds, deflections, driving the net, etc. All those PP chances in the past two games, being cute with the puck, looking for those highlight goals - that will go nowhere fast against a good goalie.

First, thanks for the GDT, nice way to get charged up for this game!

The NYR are a far more talented team than the Islanders, not even close. At every position they have more talent and more depth. They aren't playing well this year though, so it's time to pounce. This will be a spirited game, probably one I'd play Matt Martin more. Love the way that kid plays the game! I hope Bailey makes it into the game tonight, don't expect Visnovsky to but that would be nice.

This is still a fragile team, young, the mental part is critical, not for this ONE game, but the next 10 as well. And in a 48 game season, every game is essentially TWO games.

Looks like Girardi isn't participating in defense drills, I think Callahan is playing tonight but no Girardi. We'll see.
