Too bad the 5th isn't for this years supposedly deep draft but I guess you can't be picky. Just glad we got something for him and freed up a roster space.

k, my bad. Still the point remains, I think that this was all about Boychuk impressing them enough and that he has earned a year long tryout and spot. If I am a Canes' fan I am no longer expecting to get him back.

Yeah, to borrow a line from poster TheSniper26 "If we're at the point where we're trading the best 7th D-Man in the league and a guy that could be a #5 on most teams just to keep the 4'11" mentally disabled alcoholic we picked up on waivers, then I think Shero should be fired."

Since he was traded to the Western Conference i can wish the most luck to him(save beating the Pens in the Finals). Seemed like a good guy and not nearly as bad as people on this board make him out to be(I'd say he's extremely average).

Christmas came late for some of you.

Bylsma clearly saw something in this guy that most of us couldn't see. I almost wonder if the delay in trading him was because Bylsma was afraid to trade him in conference and demanded Shero to only trade him out west.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Way overdue, but I'll take it. Thanks for finally admitting to this mistake of a player.

Seriously, this news made me so happy.

I'd say now if only we could get rid of Craig Adams but by some bizarre circumstance Adams has been a good player this year.

So had we waived Lovejoy and gotten a 5th for Strait would you all have felt better?

I kind of liked Lovejoy and thought he was a good role player. I hope everything goes well for him.

Glad he's gone, not so much for how terrible it is but so that Bort and Despres can get some serious minutes and a legitimate shot to cement themselves with Niskanen out. They've both looked great too. Always thought Bortuzzo has been a rock, glad to see he's doing well up here too.

Farewell Reverend.

You would have a fair point....if I thought Strait was even in the same stratosphere. I was always really high on Strait, and he's proving me right as we speak. I still think it was stupid to let him go for nothing.

But spilled milk....etc, etc.

Would he have gotten better than a 5th? maybe now, but at the time?

A few people freaked out when Lovejoy was kept over Strait for some reason but I think a lot of us understood both were going to be gone by the end of the season.

As well as Strait's doing for the Isles I don't think he'd be playing here because it's pretty clear the Pens felt Bortuzzo and Despres were better and the 5 veterans are better and countless higher end prospects in the system that would have passed him by sooner than later too. Both players (Lovejoy and Strait) clearly weren't in the plans for those reasons.

No. But I would've never discarded him in the first place.

Value-wise, we absolutely got what the market would pay, yes. That said, we lost a damn solid player in Strait.

Not a fan of him and glad he's gone. But, he did give good effort in games and I wish him the best.

He's always been physical and good defensively. At no point should the Pens trade Craig Adams. Have you even watched him on the PK? His ability to clear the puck, sometimes diving, is one of the better PK talents you'll see in this league.

But back to the main point. Getting anything for a player that has been surpassed by all other dmen, including the young guns, is a great thing. Whether Shero decides to actually use the pick or use it to sweeten the pot in a trade, it is much better than getting nothing.

But I suspect that old Shero has the wheels turning for a trade...dun dun DUN.

True to an extent. Which is part of my criticism of Shero's philosophy. They were pushed out because of the emphasis of only drafting defense. Bad asset management, but you can not disagree with the choices made. I truly believe Boychuk was the same deal on the Canes. He would have stuck with a lot of teams, they just were stacked at his position and could not afford to see if he completed his game with more opportunity.

Calgary gave me a 2013 3rd round pick in NHL 13

Awful asset management by Shero

That one hurts the most. Carl Sneep is a point-per-game NHL player. How can you let him go for a 7th?

Fire everyone.

Fair point. I think it just infuriated me a little to see one of the best AHL defensemen for years be lost for nothing. But...you can't win 'em all.

Potential 7th, if he plays 10 NHL games.

I liked his effort, but sometimes his lack of skill came back to bite him. If he can fit in at the Ducks, good luck to him. I can see him maybe getting cut at the end of the season if Anaheim feel they have enough depth at D.
