Even I agree, Kassian + Schneid's is too much for Kessel.
A GOALIE who happens to be in a goalie controversy, while only playing ~70 games in his career + a power forward who has played 53 games in his career scoring an amazing 16 points (6 of which playing with the Sedins) who is only 3 years younger than Phil Kessel who's had 4 straight 30 goal seasons (3 of which on a lowly leafs team) and 333 pts in 466 games including 165 goals in that span. And that's too much for Kessel? My ass
Not to mention we have Tyler Biggs who projects to be the EXACT same player has Zack Kassian. What a joke man
For me If we end up moving Kessel it is imperative that we get quality > quantity coming back. ROR, M. Richards, maybe Duchene is the type of player I would be interested in getting back. To land one of those, I'd part with one of our other centers.
I would like to see them get a centre to play with Kessel (and Lupul when he returns) but if they get a good return on him why not trade him if it helps the team?

I am 1000% against trading Kessel.
However, if push comes to shove and management is deadset on trading our only star forward, we sure as hell better be getting a #1 center in return.

Keep him. He's not going to return you the pieces you want.
Then Leafs have to overpay to sign him or let him walk for free after next season.

Bozak, okay. Grabovski, I wouldn't do it.
New guy
Grabovski
Kadri
that works for me really well

just creates a lesser, but still significant problem with our second line.
And, no, I don't think we rush Kadri into second line status.

I doubt you will. Few teams have them in a abundance, never mind wanting to move a center to begin with. Instead you sell off assets and put yourself in a position to draft one. Kulemin and Phaneuf could both garner a first - more in the case of the latter. You get another in a Kessel trade and you could be sitting on four firsts in a deep draft.
Schneider + Gaunce + 1st is the most I'd offer at this point in time. I'm willing to slightly overpay(which it is, imo), but not acquire Kessel at huge overpayment. Let's see if anyone would top that offer before going overboard on offers.
Gaunce and the late 1st isn't sure enough to move a sure thing for.
Schnieder is a good starting point - But Kassian is something that would have to be given up.
On your side Schneider + Gaunce + 1st is easy to stomach because it solidifies the goaltending and only moves out unneeded futures.
on our side it looks like a legit starter, but no immediate consolation for loss of Kessel, in terms of offensive production.
I'd meet in the middle with:
Schneider + Kassian + 2nd + 3rd

If Kessel is dealt I think you'll be surprised with how little we get for him, if you think Schneider and Kassian isn't enough.
Kassian will probably be a 20 goal physical guy, who will add a lot of grit to a top six.
Schneider has shown he succeeds at every level, he's a legit starter in his prime age.
Having Kassian, JVR, Biggs, Frattin and Kulemin all in our top 9 will give us enough size to compete with the bigger clubs.
I really do see a Kessel for O'Reilly + deal happening with the + being a lot smaller then most people think.
What if the trade involves Tyler Bozak, to replace the departed ROR?
He'd be a great third line center behind Duchene and Stastny. He's great on faceoffs and a solid 2-way player that can pot 15 ish goals. Bozak played college in Denver, and I believe still has a lot of connections to that state, so I think he'd be a great fit for you. He wouldn't cost a whole lot to re-sign, maybe even he'd take a small discount longterm.

I mean we'd take a flyer on him no doubt, but he doesn't have much value to us. Mitchell and Sgarbossa look like they could play the 3C role for us.
The key for us is if we add to ROR for Kessel, the following pieces are not the +:
First round picks
Duchene, Stastny, Sgarbossa, Mitchell
Landeskog, PAP
Erik Johnson
Varlamov
