Oh my, a thread where Leafs fans discuss between them what they want for Kessel
Realistically, right now Kessel would return something similar to Hossa or Kovalchuk. Kessel has one more year left, but Hossa and Kovalchuk were both far superior players at the time they got traded. Pittsburgh would offer something like Maatta + 1st + Kennedy + Tangradi. What will probably actually happen is either Kessel gets traded next year's deadline for much less than that, or he will just walk away as UFA.
They're certainly not getting M. Richards / Ryan / Carlson / Letang and other fantasies.
well since 90% of hockey fans live in the toronto area it's to be expected
Apparently 90% of hockey fans are oblivious to the concept of rental.

Kessel is worth as much as any player in the league not named Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos, Giroux, Sedin (based on statistics of the last year or two)
Saying he's not worth Letang or Ryan is laughable
lmao. That's what we call a career year champ. Kessel's horrendous start makes his value further low. That one-dimensional soft winger UFA in 1 year is far less valuable than players like Toews, Weber, Parise, Tavares, Nash, Kovalchuk, Kopitar, Spezza, Eberle, Hall, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Backstrom, I could go on but you probably get the idea how delusional you are.

You really believe all of those guys would be a fantasy in a deal for Kessel? what world are you living in? It's as if some people think ppg players are a dime a dozen. Ans how is Kovy a far superior player?
There's a huge difference between acquiring a player for a year and a half and acquiring a young player RFA bound or one that has a 3-4 years contract you geniuses.

To be fair to Leaf fans Kessel for B. Ryan is close to fair value. Even after all the terrible offers by Leaf fans in the Luongo thread I will be nice here. Last year when Ryan was on the outs with Anaheim I could see a swap between these 2 players. This year a deal like this probably wouldn't happen because Anaheim is having a great start. But value wise they are close.
I think if Boston was interested a deal could be worked out around Krejci, because they have Bergeron and Seguin for top 6. It would be nice for Toronto to add a quality center and both these players are around the same age/cap hit. Boston would need to add something to Krejci, not sure what exactly, possibly a 1st. Toronto's strength would be at center position with Krejci, Grabovski, Kadri. Boston can play Seguin, Bergeron, Peverly at center and have another offensive weapon on the wing.

i dont think any of us were debating this point; however...
Kovalchuk is a non-soft two-way player who had multiple 50 goals season at the time he got traded. Pretty much anybody but a Leaf fan can figure that out.
So that guy who used to cherry pick with the last name "Kovalchuk" on the back of his jersey, who was that? The motivated two-way player? Kovy potted 41 the year he was dealt. How many did Kessel get last season? 37
I wouldn't trade Letang for anything off the Leafs roster and that includes their 1st Round Pick. As far as Kessel goes, his value has eroded so much I doubt the Leafs get anything they need to rebuild and are more likely to get an "alright maybe will take him off your hands" attitude from other GM's.

So a single 37 goals season up against two 50 goals seasons, multiple 40 goals and 30 goals seasons. You're making a point, buddy.
