Credit where credit is due

Ward - What a boss

Harrison - Even before the GWG he was in mean mode, hitting everything making the smart plays out of the zone

Sanguinetti - He missed the one shot but honestly thought this was his best game yet, made a lot of good reads to break up plays in the making with a quick poke check

The bad
Semin, - Might be alone here but before he got his goal I think that this was probably his worst game, just wasn't moving his feet

Mcbain - Wow easily our worst D tonight, made some painfully bad reads, obviously the one that lead to the goal and the terrible defensive play to follow it up. A couple of times I saw him in positions where he would easily be the first guy to the puck and he just stood there waiting for someone else to get it, then you could see the light bulb go off after the Senator player skates by him.

Kessel snags his first to keep Winnipeg off our backs as far as the division lead goes... Important that that game doesn't go to OT.

Either way, even if one of them ties us we've played the least games in the conference.

Only way they BOTH pass us is if Winnipeg wins in OT, and even then the games in hand are nice.

Nah, I feel like we ALWAYS have games in hand, it's just that we use them as an excuse for NOT being in the playoff picture instead of using them as a cushion once we're in.

I think the Boston game was Semin's worst by far. Today's game was not great, but it wasn't nearly as terrible as the Boston game.

Nice game (well, for you folks ). I only caught the third period but regardless Ward was spectacular from what I saw.

Good luck the rest of the season. I've always had a soft spot for the Canes

When you play Tampa, and other teams we're competing with for a playoff spot please beat them and we'll try to return the favor

I think you might have missed the point. He was mocking Chantel's fail at announcing the score in the Winnipeg game. That's all.

In 8th place with two passable teams ahead of us and two teams that could easily pass us right behind in 9th and 10th.

This season's gonna be fun.

I'm not even gonna look at standings til the halfway mark.

This was a win playoff teams get though so I'm happy about that.

I wouldn't be opposed to sitting Mcbain on Saturday for Corvo.

Jay Harrison is 5th on this team in scoring.

I like where we're at right now, or at least I find it acceptable, but if EStaal and Skinner ever cool down we're not gonna be able to score any more goals.

It's damn hard not to do some scoreboard watching right now with such a short season.

Gotta give credit to Ward here, he's the only reason this game wasn't 5-2. That's no bash on Ellis either since he has been arguably the best backup in the league to this point (well, an argument for Fasth could be made), but Ward was just flat out lights out. He seems to be in his groove again, wasn't really battling things even close to as much as he was in the first few outings. He was challenging Ottawa all night, cutting down the angle at the top of the crease when needed.

Can't help but think we stole 2, but after the past few years of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory I'll take it when I can get it. WAY too early to get my hopes up, but I have no reason not to believe that this is a playoff team. Since the first 2 games the only two that have beat the Canes have been two of the most physical teams in the league. Nobody in the Southeast brings that kind of game. If the Canes can carry over this form they've had against Ottawa, Toronto, and Buffalo to the division I feel very good heading forward.

Besides Ward being amazing, Staal's end to end play late in the 3rd period was impressive. Great game...Go Canes!

Man, it feels great to wake up to having won a game like that.

I'm with Dave on this one: this tastes better after the past few seasons of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory on what you can only call a regular basis. Last season this is the type of game we would have played the role of Ottawa: Good game? Lose in OT.

And his worst game he gets his 2nd goal, game-tying. At least he kind of made up for it, but that's Semin.
