Why at the ripe old age of 22 and after a solid NHL debut last year, have you determined Elliott is incapable of playing top 4 down the road?

I still don't get why Zibanejad + Benoit or Zibanejad + Benoit and a 3rd would not be a perfect trade for both organizations without hurting either of them moving forward.

I understand RoR is great and worth a lot, but big pass on that. We already know how Kule fits with his linemates in as a shut down forward here, and Rielly is by far our best prospect.

Seen some pretty awful proposals from us for this guy!

Seems like its prospects and roster player:
Rielly
Bozak/Kulemin
3rd

For

O'Rielly
Absolutely not.

I would rather saw my own nads off with a kite string. That's the worst proposal ever. Your 1st coming back in that?

Avs ain't my team and i've seen 643645276 worse proposals in this thread alone.

O'Reilly would be the Leafs top center right away. you gotta give to get.

and if you think the Avs first is available - i've got a bridge i'd like to sell you.

I would much much much much much rather just offer RoR a 5 year 5M per offer sheet.

Compensation would be 1st and 3rd. The 3rd is the same and I'd much rather have Kulemin/Rielly than our upcoming 1st rounder.

So we sign him and Avs fans then have to deal with the awkward situation of thanking the Leafs for helping them? Works for me.

We understand give to get, but that's a very very solid 2nd line two-way player and the guy we *just* picked 5th overall.

you'd just eat your words if the Leafs fail to make the playoffs.

The physical side of his game scares me. I do not see him playing more than 20 minutes. I love the kid but I need more ''beef'' from him.

At this moment, he should have an impact in the AHL and he does not.

and it's worth trading that for a top-notch centerman who also dominates in the defensive zone.

you can switch Rielly for Gardiner - but i'm not personally sold on Gards.

While it would pain me to do it, I would consider

Gardiner+MacA for ROR.

Liles is untradeable, at least for anything good. He is a PMD though admittedly nothing like Gardiner. Morgan is coming next year or the year after. ROR would be a great addition for many years.

Like ya said, you gotta give to get.

Deepest draft in years? 1st rounders are highly valuable this year in comparison to some others.

He's injured at this moment. Before then he was playing with guys that don't even belong in the AHL and was being asked to work on his defensive game.

Pair him with a defensive guy like Hejda or Siemens one day and Elliott will look great, being able to use his superb shot (one of the best I've seen on the Avs since Sakic) and solid offensive creativity. He's currently shaping up to have the same upside Shattenkirk had for us, just a couple years behind in development (considering their age difference... it's not surprise really). While he probably will never have quite that same #2/3 upside, a top notch PPQB playing 20-21 minutes a night on the 2nd pairing is not out of the question yet.

I wouldn't offer sheet RoR, either. The Leafs' 1st rounder should be almost untouchable. We've had a strong start, but we did this last year, too.

It's not like the Leafs are going to finish bottom 5 this year. Maybe we miss the playoffs in the 9-11 hole in the East, and the pick still isn't that high.

Still, management might value a more developed guy like ROR than a #1C prospect that wouldn't be ready for a few years.

I'd rather not offersheet, for the record.

Random idea...

O'Reilly (signed) and Colorado's first to Phoenix for Yandle and a conditional first round pick. The condition? If the Avs pick is inside the top five, they get Phoenix's first. If the Avs pick is outside the top five, they get no pick in return from Phoenix. With Yandle on board, I think there is almost zero chance that Colorado picks in the top five. From what I've seen from that team, a guy like Yandle is the missing ingredient.

Could he want to resign in Phoenix? No guarantee what with their ownership issues.

funny, that's what Leafs fans said last year before it all fell apart.

anyway, this upcoming draft is real deep. it's not just the first few picks that are real solid.

McNabb hit a guy on his own team??

Yeah, I think he does. Elliott has a bad start this season and now is hurt but I wouldn't write him off yet.

In your face, 4th line players are available every single year as UFAs for FREE. I don't think you target a guy in the hopes that he might someday become a 4th line player.

I'm pretty sure the Sens would not do this trade but would Avs consider a one for one trade with Turris and ROR?

Turris has a new contract kicking in next year, 3.5m for 5 years.
