likely out to sea mostly. doubt anyone gets 6 inches...maybe the far east end. too bad, it's going to snow like hell over the water. this had a 2 foot potential, but more than glad its going to mostly miss.

Just a heads up ya'll:

National Hurricane Center now predicting Tropical Depression One will become the first hurricane of the season and move up the eastern seaboard. Current forecasts have it brushing the carolina coast and then moving north-northeast. It likely will move well east of Long Island, but it bears watching...

...and maybe we could change the name of this thread to remove winter from the title as this is most certainly not winter?

thurs and fri appear to be pretty wet, with Sat and Sun to be far sunnier and drier.

Just to give you guys a head up since Isles will be playing game on Wednesday at the Barn...weather may be really bad. nor'easter heading up the coast. Most likely heavy rain, snow inland. Strong winds very likely. Keep an Eye on the forecast.

GO SABRES!

Indeed... I wouldn't discount the possibility that it could be snow just yet though, it's not a perfect setup for a snowstorm, but if it "threads the needle", so to speak, it could still produce snow.

Like you said though, the most likely scenario is rain... Though a few of the more recent model runs have me a little bit worried

Regardless, couldn't be worse timing in terms of travel and whatnot

It's gonna have to Bomb out closer to Maryland for us to get snow I think. Right now, It doesn;t become a monster til its on top of us which means only back end snow. And very little at that.

That would certainly help, but if you want snow you don't really want it rapidly deepening too early, it'll flood the coastal plain with warm, easterly winds. The latest GFS is the track that would give us the best bet for snow, IMO since I think if this particular storm is rapidly deepening at or south of out latitude, it's because it's tracking closer to the coast where the best PVA is co-located under the right-entrance region of a 300-mb jet streak. It all depends where the temperature gradient sets up.

I don't have a skew-t in front of me, unfortunately, but I know the 18z GFS had a bit of a warm boundary layer, but above ~950 mb was solidly below freezing. That can be overcome IMO because models tend to overdo the BL temps and because if the precip is heavy enough it can result in cooling of the column

Overall again though, the moral of the story is its tough enough to get snow on LI in the heart of winter, let alone November. The most likely scenario is rain, but it's not out of the realm of possibility that it's colder/snowier.

Don't want anyone thinking I'm forecasting a snowstorm... Unless it happens... Then I told you so :p

according to the models, precip is definitely on the way .. as to what kind .. ill let the experts tell us, but right now the maps I see are saying 2-4" for most of central LI with 4-6" west and 1-2" east.

I still would be surprised if it stuck to the WARM roadways. Coast definitely not. Maybe north of the LIE. But still think it will be slush there.

Agreed. Things have definitely trended warmer aloft over the past 24 hours, not good for snow lovers that's for sure

latest maps from NOAA say most of long island will be snow free, but about 1.3" of rain is heading our way.
