So either Wang is incredibly cheap that he'll add $5mil to the cap without paying a dime, or he's doing favors for Boston.

What's next, the Isles trading for Tim Connolly for a conditional 3rd to save even more money?

It allows the Isles flexibility to unload players for picks and prospects without taking back salary. Could be major sellers collecting assets at the deadline.

Has Thomas commented yet? Is there any sliver of hope he suits up this year for Isles, or dead set on his year off?

His agent, Bill Zito, said yet again, Thomas has no intention of playing this year.

Thanks for passing that info on.

For about 10 mins after reading about the trade, I was pretty excited. I thought this meant the isles were gonna demote and later buyout DiPietro.

Thomas isnít playing this year, so NYI is keeping their 2014 2nd round pick.

1. NYI gives Boston $5M in cap space (further cementing a good relationship between GMís for any deals in the future?).
2. NYI stay above the cap floor if they become sellers and need to unload some high-end contracts at the deadline.
3. If Nabokov re-signs, they let the Thomas contract expire and donít lose any picks.
4. If Nabokov doesnít re-sign, they toll the contract and get one year of Tim Thomas (only $3M salary) while Poulin develops, and only lose a 2nd rounder in 2015.

I know Garth Snow takes a lot of heat on these boards (especially from non-Islanders fans), but this is the definition of a smart move from a GM.

It should piss off any real fan.

Staples said in one of his tweets, that the move provided needed insurance, against not being cap compliant the entire season.

Sure sounds like the isles are thinking about what if scenerios, as the trade deadline approaches.

If he wasn't going to play in Boston, he's definitely not going to play for NYI.

Close.

If Thomas doesn't report the Isles do NOT lose their pick.

It's the last game of the season. Isles one point out of the playoffs and need to win to get in. Nabby is injured, and the back-up has just been lit up three straight. Thomas walks into the coach's office and says put me in.

Do you do it?

It's the smart thing to do. Snow can restock the shelves or move those picks and prospects for players.

He'll have a lot of options without spending a dime.

Imagine if Capuano plays Timmy for one game, just to troll Wang and Snow.

While this doesn't break any rule this circumvents the spirit of the CBA and I demand punishment

No. The guy will not have played in a yr. He'll be rusty as heck.

I'd call up either Nilson or Poulin from the AHL.

Yes. With Weight and Thompson looking over his shoulder as assistant coaches and concerned for his job, I'm sure Cappy is looking ' troll' his gm and team owner.

Maybe Weight and Thompson has gotten Cap drunk as hell first, and tell him to play Thomas.

Business politics sir

To date the only thing Thomas has said is he may come back next year mainly to try out for Olympic team. Otherwise he's spending time with his family.
