How is TT cap related when the NYI are at $49m without TT?

I am sorry but this is disgusting. Every good feeling I had about this team is dampened by this, and right on the heels of a huge game tonight. We were going to be under the cap floor, so we trade for a guy to get us over, who we do not need to pay and who will probably never play a minute for us.

Does any of the Snow/Wang supporters ever need another sign or proof that they are not looking to upgrade or improve this team on the ice?

I thought this kind of thing was outlawed in the new CBA, way to circumvent the cap? Unbelievable, they would not add a player to make the team better and get us over the cap.
Just disgusted right now.

If the Islanders try to toll and get Thomas to report next year, than I suppose its a no-lose trade (unless of course the year off screws TT's game).

Conditional 2nd round pick in 2014 or 2015. Don't know what the conditions are (assuming he has to show up and play)

Move to get to the cap floor. Not shocked we went out and got him. Was actually waiting for this to happen in July.

Also, if TT ever does play for the Islanders, I can't imagine him being happy playing and living in the tax "haven" known as Nassau county.

any normal team wouldve tapped into their surplus of prospects/picks, acquired a player with a pulse, that addresses a need and puts them on the ice. gahhhhh

I am sure Snow has some logic for this, no way he will just give up a 2nd or 3rd pick and get nothing in return so the Isles hit the Salary Cap minimum

I cant wait until all the facts come out

but how does this hurt us? he doesnt take a roster space, we get trade freedom by being sufficiently above the floor (did anyone think we would be running out of cap space anyways?) and if we manage to toll the contract we either get a nhl starter or some assets through trade.

smart move by snow and the bruins.

A whole new way to circumvent the cap.

This is pathetic.

Couldn't the condition be up to the Isles though? I thought that, say the Isles get to the 2nd round...they can tell Boston to take the pick if they feel there's no one they desperately want. Yet, if the Isles pick...then Boston would just get the 2015 2nd rounder.

Unless there is some sort of behind-the-scenes dealing, I would assume the 2nd round pick is conditional on Thomas playing

isn't this just a case of 2 teams helping each other? bruins need cap room, islanders need to add cap room. Conditional 2nd rounder could be if he plays or simply so it doesn't look as bad as "Thomas for nothing"

The site now shows the Isles at $53M including Thomas, so they were at $48 before.

Don't forget, Bailey and Joensuu still don't count against the cap since he is suspended (and not a 35+ contract like Thomas). Plus, the bonuses I think count against the upper limit now but not for the lower limit (I think that change was made with this CBA, not positive though).

Ok, I think I managed to process it now.

The move doesn't really put us over the cap now (as we are already over it). But, should the Islanders decide to trade some of their high cap hit players late in the season, such as Vis, Streit, and/or Nabby, they'll have the floor covered and won't have to take unnecessary salary back.

And if Thomas decides to play for them, they get a pretty good goalie for a second round pick (they may even toll the contract).

Its not a horrible move at all. Its a no-lose move.

Ok glad to see its obviously conditional on him playing at least game but man this is a clown move another blatant cap circumvention move by this front office.

The condition is based on whether or not Thomas plays a game for them under this contract. You have to figure the 2014 2nd goes to Boston if he reports and plays this year, and the 2015 2nd would go to Boston if the contract is tolled and he reports next year.

I just can't see how he was worried about the cap when we have a full 23 plus IR players in Marty and JJ who still count against the cap.
He's 35+ so his cap hit count whether he plays or not.

Ok, according to McKenzie...we only give up our 2nd rounder if we decide to dress Thomas. Whew...I can breathe easier now.

Sad if this is actually the case.

I would hope for the Isles sake that the 2nd becomes a late pick if he doesnt play.

Apartenly it wont be a pick

I like Tim Thomas a lot, but I don't understand this move. Perhaps there is more to this then meets the eye.

Amazing I don't know how I can look a ranger fan in the face tonight after this deal, and having it public knowledge that it was done just to get to cap floor. Why make this move on the day of the first ranger/isles game? Snow and Wang trying to keep isles fans out do MSG bc of embarrassment? Another low for this team.

Didn't take too long for this team to figure out how to circumvent cap floor. Amazing bc most teams will be trying to find a way to get below while isles can get to bottom.

On the bright side snow did make a trade...
