Ok I guess that makes sense, but jesus, Reasoner is the only player on this club making anything over 1 million that you'd want to get rid of.

If the Isles shed up to 5 million in salary from actual NHL players, then the Isles should be punished. The league has to take action & stop the Islanders from themselves.

Well, if you are way out of it by the deadline would you not want to consider moving Streit, Vis and Nabby?

I take my last comment back if this is a prelude to buying out DP.

Cute.

All I am saying is that Ill stomach the deal for now rather then rushing other kids just to hit the cap floor. But if you are looking at twitter and what BD is saying, as well as Brian Compton — I agree with them... something else could very well be coming. We have too many players as it is with Bailey coming back and someone is going to have to go.

Unless he's about to announce his retirement, this has nothing to do with DP. They can't buy him out until the offseason, and I'm almost positive that the Thomas contract expires at the end of this season.

EDIT: Just check with capgeek, and it does.

I am not sure what the cap floor is but does this now allow the Islanders to trade Visnovsky?

Most likely just to reach the cap and not face a penalty.

But if Reasoner is gone. Great trade

Toll the contract and buyout DP ..even better.

Not likely to happen but would be awesome.

Just curious, why hasn't DiPietro been playing? He's not injured, right? (not joking) I think he only played the game against the Bruins. Why not play him a bit more?

I suppose, but it's just so damn ridiculous that the Islanders are clearly circumventing the cap & the league isn't doing anything about it. The league has to save us from ourselves.

Agreed. Because otherwise, why do it now? This trade could be made anytime up until the deadline if the Isles were going to make a move. Something else has to be up. I still think it sucks that they're taking on phantom salary in order to get above the floor, but something is definitely going to happen soon.

Maybe, if they toll and he plays this year. If he comes back this year, you have to figure he'd need time to get in shape, and then you're looking at a month and a half of tt for a 2nd rounder. That's pretty horrible.

He is a shell of what he used to be and Nabby is much better basically. I am guessing he will play 8-12 games this season(assuming he doesn't get injured again). I wouldn't be surprised if he plays against Buffalo or Carolina coming up.

Because he's really not an NHL caliber goaltender anymore. I think this is the last year he's with the Isles...though moves like this make me think they'll keep him around for the cap hit.

it´s a win-win trade for both teams...

thomas won´t play this season (normaly)
=> no picks to boston
=> you can (perhaps if there is a good offer) sell some players without going under the cap

and the bruins have room to buy someone....

If we are still in the hunt, we can acquire whoever and whatever contract we want because we are no where near the cap. Come offseason we don't toll TT's contract and we say goodbye to him - once again never losing the 2nd round pick.

This is the way I'm seeing this trade, am I way off here?
I think your post makes a lot of sense.

I'd hoped this move was part of a plan, toget DiPietro off the roster. But based on Snow's flexibility comment, it sounds like Snow is looking ahead, thinking what if he has to move Vis + Streit at the trade deadline ($10.7m combined cap hit).

If there is another trade on the way, then it's either a big trade where guys like Okposo, Grabner & Streit are being moved. or it's a deal where someone making good $ like Kyle is being moved for futures/ELC players.
