All I am saying is that Ill stomach the deal for now rather then rushing other kids just to hit the cap floor. But if you are looking at twitter and what BD is saying, as well as Brian Compton — I agree with them... something else could very well be coming. We have too many players as it is with Bailey coming back and someone is going to have to go.
I take my last comment back if this is a prelude to buying out DP.
Unless he's about to announce his retirement, this has nothing to do with DP. They can't buy him out until the offseason, and I'm almost positive that the Thomas contract expires at the end of this season.
There has to be another deal coming otherwise this makes no sense.
Agreed. Because otherwise, why do it now? This trade could be made anytime up until the deadline if the Isles were going to make a move. Something else has to be up. I still think it sucks that they're taking on phantom salary in order to get above the floor, but something is definitely going to happen soon.
wow, if he plays for us, it might end up being a good move....maybe....
Maybe, if they toll and he plays this year. If he comes back this year, you have to figure he'd need time to get in shape, and then you're looking at a month and a half of tt for a 2nd rounder. That's pretty horrible.
Just curious, why hasn't DiPietro been playing? He's not injured, right? (not joking) I think he only played the game against the Bruins. Why not play him a bit more?
He is a shell of what he used to be and Nabby is much better basically. I am guessing he will play 8-12 games this season(assuming he doesn't get injured again). I wouldn't be surprised if he plays against Buffalo or Carolina coming up.
If we are out of the playoff hunt come trade deadline and we want to move Nabby, Streit or Viz for picks - then TT's salary will keep us above the floor. As long as TT doesn't play a game - we don't lose the 2nd rounder.
If we are still in the hunt, we can acquire whoever and whatever contract we want because we are no where near the cap. Come offseason we don't toll TT's contract and we say goodbye to him - once again never losing the 2nd round pick.
This is the way I'm seeing this trade, am I way off here?
I think your post makes a lot of sense.
I'd hoped this move was part of a plan, toget DiPietro off the roster. But based on Snow's flexibility comment, it sounds like Snow is looking ahead, thinking what if he has to move Vis + Streit at the trade deadline ($10.7m combined cap hit).
If there is another trade on the way, then it's either a big trade where guys like Okposo, Grabner & Streit are being moved. or it's a deal where someone making good $ like Kyle is being moved for futures/ELC players.
