@BradBiggs: Six teams have expressed interest in #Bears LB Nick Roach, some as a middle linebacker. http://t.co/OemfmaJgSi

Rather bring back Roach as MLB then bring back Urlacher

I thought Roach actually looked ok in spot ,, Much improved over 09 when he was thrown into MLB role

We can't afford ANY of them right now. The only tweets that matter between now and Tuesday are either contract restructures or cuts from the Bears. I'm hoping for more of the former, but there are a few people I expect (want) to see cut.

we seem to have more Cap Space than it was being said and Emery can get more Cap Space if he needs it.

Rumor has it that we are going hard after Long, Bushrod and Levitre

That's just a rumor. We don't have enough cap space to sign back Urlacher, Izzy, Roach (if we choose to) and sign our draft picks, let alone pursue ANYONE as it stands right now. Before 3pm EST on Tuesday, two things need to happen:

1) Cut some players that we know won't be on the team.
2) Restructure some contracts (Tillman and Marshall seem like low-hanging fruit; I don't think you touch Peppers).

My HOPE is that those discussions are underway now, and close to finality, and Emery/Bears are just waiting to formalize those deals as close to the start of Free Agency as possible, so teams won't know what the Bears buying power is. Emery seems like a very "close to the vest" guy so this wouldn't surprise me. Hopefully this is what transpires the next couple of days.

Of course, perhaps the Bears were unable to do any restructures even if they wanted to and there's simply nothing to announce. If so, it will be a very quiet free agency period for Chicago.

I have a feeling the Bears will be more active that we are expecting. Emery has seen this team for a season now and has a good idea of what needs fixing and what doesn't. That could mean unexpected trades or cuts.

Let's see, we went Guard in the first. The two premier TEs are off the board. I might look to go linebacker here.

Kevin Minter, ILB, LSU might be a solid choice.

Or, if you wanted to continue loading up on offensive line, here are a couple other options:

Terron Armstead, OT, Arkansas-Pine Bluff
David Bakhtiari, OT/G, Colorado

Of those two, I'm big on Armstead. So the call is, do we load up on young O-Line talent (and assume that both Webb/Carimi aren't tackles for the future...probably not a bad bet), or do we address our Linebacker depth, which is looking bad right now given Urlacher has maybe a year or two in him IF we resign him, and that Roach may be leaving too?

I might lean towards Minter the ILB, but Armstead would be a very close #2 choice, and I'd have to think long and hard about which to take.

What do some of you other guys think???

I'd take Brown over Minter. More athletic and talented. Minter might be the safer pick and that's it.

Here's a good article (pre-combine) about Minter and his consideration as a possibility at the #20 pick. GREAT value to land him in the 2nd round:

I'm reading up on Brown a bit now (wasn't that familiar with him). Some mocks had him going to the Giants in the first round, while others thought he was more of a 2nd rounder due to his not playing much last season and missing the combine with a shoulder injury, so either way he's also good 2nd round value. I'm not going to pretend to know enough about either to make a pick between the two, but either may be good for this mock. So the choice from my POV is Minter/Brown if you go ILB, or Armstead to continue to build the O-Line.

Chip Kelly seemed to think very highly of him before the Fiesta Bowl saying that he was the best linebacker in college football. I'm not sure he gets by the Eagles.

Sounds good. I'd be willing to go with him for ILB with that pick then. You may be right, in the real draft maybe neither of those guys make it to the Bears so we might as well take one of them now.

It's possible Minter may be the best MLB fit and Urlacher replacement of the two, but it's also possible that Brown may be the better athlete overall, even if he has to play outside. Who knows, maybe he could adjust inside.

Man I hope so. I'm sitting here waiting for both cut announcements and (hopefully) contract extensions and restructures for Marshall and Tillman at LEAST. IMO if we don't do those latter two, then we aren't going to be an even moderate player in Free Agency, rather playing the NFL version of "Moneyball" finding bargain players in Wave 2 or 3 of FA with big upside.

I do hope we hear some extension announcements today as well as cuts. It's getting down to the wire, and while I know Emery likes to keep his cards close to the vest, it's time to rock and roll.

Heh, I've read some articles on how he could potentially be a cut candidate, but most dismiss it. His contract was done to get 3 years out of him and then he could become a cut/cap causality possibility (starting this season when his cap hit really starts escalating). But the fact is he is still a dominant player whether he's healthy or not, and he makes everyone around him better. While cutting him may free up around $6.2M in cap space, you have to ask yourself if you can find two (or even one) impact player of his level for that amount. I think the answer to that is "no."
