I wouldn't want him at a $3.67 mil cap hit. No way we can afford him next season.

Also InB4 Luongo.

Not to go too far OT because I too am curious at Brouwer's value, but is this really a thing?

If the Caps were interested in a roster shake-up and traded for one of our goalies, I wouldn't at all mind Brouwer being a part of the deal.

What exactly do you know about Luongo's contract that makes it "bad"?

Really? You're going to take that path? Aren't there like 50 threads that have beat this horse to death? Why bring it up again when all it will do is start the same cycle?

Caps already have one contract for a controversial superstar that extends until eternity. Why add another?

It's a thing like wearing sunglasses indoors along with a sideways golf visor is a thing.

On topic though, I also would like Brouwer. We have nothing to offer though unless you're willing to take Booth straight up. We're already going to have to shed salary for next season, it looks like. With Ballard finally playing up to potental/contract, looks like Booth is the one to go. Even then, I'm not 100% sure you keep Brouwer over Raymond or Higgins long-term, or that you take Brouwer over Booth for this season.

Brouwer would be an upgrade over Hansen but not worth it for the price tag.

Well, I wouldn't trade Danault for him, that's for damn sure.

Because no one in their right mind thinks Luongo's going to play out the entirety of his contract. Plus Luongo's performance is actually exceeding his cap hit. But I'll stop here, as the above poster is right. It's been discussed to death how Luongo's contract is not at all as bad as people make it seem.

The evidence suggests Luongo's contract is one of the single best in the history of the cap. They had to create rules to outlaw any new contracts with that structure because its so good.

Suggesting otherwise is just fan hyperbole.

alright kids, no more Luongo talk in this thread, there's been 72 Luongo threads for a reason, can we talk about Brouwer?

What are the chances that WAS would keep some of his salary cap? Because I know Gillis would be into that kind of stuff

I'd say the odds of that are pretty low unless they decide to do something drastic.

Yes, but it's only good as long as he's playing at an allstar level. With the new CBA, there's a clause that penalizes the team should Luongo retire before finishing the contract. So now when he's 40 and merely playing well (we'll assume this as we have no reason to assume otherwise), he'll have a 1m salary, but a 5.7m cap hit. Where's the value?

In the old CBA this contract was golden. Lu could play at a high level, make 6.7m+ and only carry a cap hit of 5.7m. It was a win for everyone. And once he was tired of playing (or was injured) and decided to retire, he would, and the contract would be off the books. That's no longer the case now, and while I can still see some value in Luongo, his contract is no longer the absolute sweetheart deal it was before the new CBA was signed.

Agreed. I'm pretty sure that there's someone out there who'll offer something decent for Brouwer and his 3.6m salary. Would love someone like him on the Pens.

I would put Brouwer value at a 3rd + mid level prospect when you factor in his poor production offensively and his horrid contract
