their is a reason he went for a 5th round pick, it's not a steal by any means, yet anyways.. I have always like his size and skating but he lacks hockey sence, we will see. Not much risk from LAs POV

Reports are saying the 5th was the one they received from the Devils in the Loktionov trade.

I would have liked to see him in Montreal at that price. He'd be better than Bouillon.

Apparently 5th rounders are the go-to trade chip now.

So, I guess we traded Loktionov for Ellerby Should be good, this is exactly what we needed, a tall defensive defender to step in for Greene and Mitchell in the meanwhile.

Good value for LA. Wish NYR had inquired. We need a #6.

For all those who bashed Dean on the Loktinov trade: we traded a 5th round selection(Loki) for a 1 round selection(Keaton). Great depth move for our D. Nice job DL!

This shows that HF fans know nothing. When I asked what it would take to get him to EDM they were like 1st or 2nd. He went for a 5th, shows that we over value our players on our team and don't know what players are actually worth.

There have been published rumors the last week or so, that he was available and could be had cheaply.

Low risk, high reward gamble by LA. Nice pickup.

Massive underpayment unless something is fundamentally wrong with Ellerby in respect to attitude/work ethic. He can still turn into something.

I know. Could be Grabner all over again.

You need to be patient with young defensemen.

5th rounder is cashing out at the bottom.

Wow.

I thought DL didnt get enough back for Loktionov. But this makes it up for it.

5th round picks... easy come, easy go

Don't go chasing defensive defensemen in the first round...

With a significantly lower cap on the horizon, the value of the average player has dropped IMO. More players than usual will be available this summer (cap compliance casualties), yet available contract slots per team (50) will remain the same.

Bottom line, new supply & demand dynamics are affecting player trade values.

Interesting. They lost Hickey on waivers who was the #4 pick in the '07 draft then acquire the player who was drafted 10th in that draft.

And with the injuries on the blueline around the league, he wouldnt have cleared.

The guy's a bust. He's been downright horrible and maybe a change of scenery will help him. His development stopped at about 17. Not sure if it's a work ethic problem or he simply didnt get any better. 5th rounder is about right.
