People always say stuff like this, but since when has someone being a cult hero in the bottom 6 kept them from being traded for a reasonable return (and not some over-inflated HF nonsense)?

Bottom 6 heroes come and go every season.

As much as I really don't want to give up Niskanen...if we could get back Seto and Clutter for him plus something small...I'd be for it.

Lol Gogo for Neal, Setoguchi, Clutterbuck

He spells his name like a jackass. Who does he think he is, an Anglican Bishop?

I'm going to guess Setoguchi might cost more than what Shero might be willing to give up.

How about Kennedy for D'Agostini straight up?

Perfect time to go Shark hunting. Clowe, Pavelski, Marleau....

I would want Marleau over most of the players posted about in this thread.

What would you guys give up for upcoming RFA, Blake Wheeler?

Winnipeg unlikely to make the playoffs.... I think he fits. Has the hands and hockey IQ to play with super stars. Adds size. Good skater although not a burner. Right hand shot. Plays all situations. Doesn't score enough to be unsustainable cap-wise.

Wheeler is part of their solution going forward, not part of the problem. I don't see the Jets moving him at all. He's young and part of their core, and they'll definitely be looking to re-sign him. He would look great here on Sid's right-wing, but he would cost a lot if he were available and for what WPG would want for him, we could probably do even better.

it seems more and more that the type of player we are looking for is always more importent for the team they are already on than they are for us....maybe we need to start looking for a players like kunzetsov who might not even come to the nhl. imo

Wouldn't be the first time people speculated about him. Would be awesome to have Marleau on this team / have him finish his career here. Not as good an option as Perry, but very close and maybe more realistic if the Sharks continue to suck this badly.

He would be a far better pick up than Clowe (who would be good compared to some of the other scrubs we've talked about acquiring in the last 6 months). Pavelski is not a target for us (C). Also far better than Stewart, Setoguchi, O'Reilly and whoever else. He and Perry stand heads and shoulders above most of the "possibilities" we talk about every year.

But Marleau... here's a guy who can do everything well and make every part of our team better. 5v5, PP, PK... and with zero pressure on him to be "the man". Here he can be just like Neal. Slot in next to an all-world C... score goals out the ying-yang. And by having him here we never have to put Sid or Geno on the PK in a pinch, risking injury.

So if SJ blows that team up (which they might... it's been discussed many times by people more knowledgeable than us over the last few years), I would definitely ship a primo D prospect (any but Morrow basically), 1st, etc to get a guy like Marleau. His deal is he's forced into a leadership role and he's not a strong personality / leader type. But he's a fantastic player and consistent. He's basically another Marian Hossa. Every year, 40/40 is a realistic goal for him.

He has one more year on his deal, and it's likely he'd take a bit less cap hit with more money up front given his age, if his time here was successful. Especially if we managed to earn another Cup this year with him on the roster.

Pavelski can play wing (currently does for the Sharks) and is a RHS. He's the one I would want above all the others.

My understanding from the last couple years was he spent a lot of time playing C. Maybe that was earlier in his career, but either way I think he's a natural C. I'd still take 3-4 years of Marleau over Pavelski 7 days a week and twice on Sunday. He is a much better all-around player / would do more to improve this team. And he also can play C if Sid or Geno get hurt and we don't lose a step. We would lose a step if Pavelski played C instead of one of those two guys.

Marleau - Sid - Dupuis
Kunitz - Geno - Neal

...sign me up. It's a long shot but our problems would be solved in all areas but veteran D depth, essentially.

(I think their top line is Marleau - Thornton - Pavs right now)

There's only ONE WAY to settle this, sir.

I think that is correct but I'm about 90% sure he's spent a good amount of time playing C also.

WHy not both? Too expensive? Actually I think if they blow it up, they're unlikely to move Pavelski or Couture... very likely to move Thornton, and fairly likely to move Marleau. They'll move the old guys / old leadership first.

Dunno if we make good trade partners with SJ. They're pretty stacked on D.
