Left-handed left wing to New Jersey

Devils prefer to play their left-handers on the left wing and the right handers on the right wing.

The predicament we have now is our third line (Carter-Gionta-Bernier) should realistically be our fourth line. Josefson and Butler are being wasted playing with Barch. Ideally, the Devils could add another left wing, in a dream world he'd fit in perfectly alongside Kovalchuk and Zajac, who've been lacking a top line left wing they gel with, pushing Zubrus to the third line.

I personally would prefer the Devils to look like:

(Trade)-Zajac-Kovalchuk
Elias-Henrique-Clarkson
Zubrus-Josefson-Butler
Carter-Gionta-Bernier

Devils would be giving up:

NHL defensemen (Most likely Tallinder but Volchenkov, Greene, Fayne, and maybe Zidlicky for the right deal).
Defensive prospects

We really can't afford to give up forwards on our NHL roster. Any takers?

Depending on who you talk to, Severson is pretty close to untouchable. It's too early to give up on him, in my opinion, especially with the upside. Someone like Burlon whose closer to NHL ready can be had.

I'd do MacArthur for Burlon and a conditional.

MacArthur for Fayne is probably what gets the Leafs thinking...

I'd be all in for Dubinsky or Anisimov, Anisimov more than Dubinsky due to cap hit.

Devils wouldn't give up Fayne whose arguably our most solid defenseman for an expiring UFA. I'd do something like Kulemin for Fayne, but certainly not MacArthur.

It's been talked about around here. I'm all for it. I think Canes fans are overselling Volchenkov here though.

How would Jokinen slot alongside Zajac and Kovalchuk? Preferably a guy whose strong on the boards but with some good offensive vision would work well (see Parise ). Someone who has those skills, I'm honestly not too familiar with Jokinen.

If that's the case, then you'd have to deal with another team to get a winger.

I'd love MacArthur. How about MacArthur for Tallinder, and a 3rd? I'd be okay with giving up Tallinder, and Urbom for him. We have too many defensive prospects, and to me Urbom is more expendable than what we got. Plus he's close to NHL ready which Burlon is not. Urbom could probably play in the NHL right now for a number of teams.

Nope.

The only type of defenceman we'd be looking to acquire is one that could fit into our long term plans. Tallinder at 34 years old isn't that defenceman.

When you look at the Devils blueline, it's really Larson and Fayne as the only guys the Leafs should be interested in.

Yes, but I just want to see what's out there first, beyond that. Loktionov is a good addition, but he's not a guarantee by any means.

The only problem is it doesn't fit our dilemma of who to play alongside Kovalchuk. I like the idea of Penner as a 3LW. He's a big body and thrives along the boards, if only you can get him motivated and stop him from eating pancakes, he'd be a nice bottom six addition.

Not interested. I don't think the Devils need someone as high profile as that. More in the MacArthur/Kulemin/Raymond range. A nice complimentary top six winger.

Zubrus could be that, but he just doesn't mesh well with Kovalchuk or Zajac.

He could be that guy, but as of right now, it's not like he's a better option than Loktionov or Tedenby. We need a more proven guy to play in the top six. It's not so much a pick up for the future, if it could be both ala Kulemin, then great, but even if it's a one year band-aid move like Mason Raymond, it's fine as well.

So you're looking for more of a Glencross type guy

Pretty much.

The Devils really don't have the assets to acquire someone like Cammalleri. Let's be honest, the Flames wouldn't trade him for a package like that, if they trade him, someone will be paying close to his top-end value. Otherwise, they are just better off keeping him unless he totally crashes and burns. Plus, I'd like to keep as much cap space as possible unless the acquisition is too good to pass up.
