Where as the face of the franchise who is the C of a team that is clearly not living up to its potential should never miss any opportunity to practice until the team stops playing like crap. Same goes for his side kicks with the A on their sweaters. Nicky and GreenLife. The supposed leaders of the team.

Morning skate isn't a practice. There are no coaches. Its a warm up. Watch any teams video of morning skates, the players aren't trying, just like warm ups, slow shots and skating. Ovechkin could go on a bike and get better conditioning.
Sure, but could he work on his slap shot or one timer on a bike? Or maybe try to find another move since the NHL has figured out his one and only move about 3 years ago. Or maybe rally the troops up for some extra work, since you know, they are in last place.
If there was no value in extra work, no one would show up for them ever and there wouldn't be any reporting on it. Not showing up for them sings that the current situation isn't that unacceptable.
