2014 Draft Steals

I am aware that this is still extremely premature!!!!

But with that said I'm just curious to know almost a year out from the 2014 draft, which players picked between rounds 2-7 are currently exceeding expectations and would likely go higher if the draft was re-held today?

UPDATE:
Please include in your post:

Which of these draft steals would be the highest riser?

Which round would they be selected in today?

Just from the san jose sharks prospect pool since I don't follow others too closely:

Rourke Chartier: 5th round .8 PPG in 2014. Now at 1.44 PPG with 46 goals in 54 games

Kevin Labanc: 6th round .54 PPG in 2014. Now at 1.61 PPG with over 100 points in 66 games

There are a couple more from that draft that are exciting sharks prospects but those two have really improved since last year

I'd say the Canucks got a couple steals.

Demko at 36 when he was projected a first rounder

McCann at 24 when he was projected a 10-20 pick

Forsling 5th round got us Clendening so I can't complain

Joonas Lyytinen 5th round, 132nd overall, Nashville. Went from 5'11 to 6'1 during the summer too.

Ah the annual "Name your team's highest achieving middle round pick" thread.

Brayden Point will be my contribution.

Axel Holmström looks like a good one for the Wings. 7th rounder, 20 points as a rookie in the SHL and 4 so far in the playoffs, PPG at the WJC... He had a good draft year too but fell mainly because of his skating.

Not sure he's a steal yet, but Brandon Hickey has had a great year at BC after being drafted in the 3rd round by the Flames.

I think he'd go higher in a re-draft now.

Lucas Wallmark in the 4th (Canes) looks like he may be an NHLer one day.

Christian Dvorak. Tearing up the OHL and the guy can bench 315.

Blues fans are pretty happy with Barbashev sliding to us at 33. If I remember correctly he was projected as a mid first.

I think the Pavel Kraskovsky could turn out to be a very nice sleeper pick for the Jets (6th round, #164 overall).

He was one of the youngest players drafted and looked very good in the Super Subway Series.

He might have NHL potential, and any player from the 6th round that makes the NHL is a draft "steal", I suppose.

Send a message via ICQ to Dutchy
Viktor Arvidsson is having a terrific season in the AHL (although he's already 21).

Matthew Mistele and Michael Bunting are both having solid years in the OHL.

Leafs don't really have anybody that's truly standing out. Valiev looks good, but he was also draft eligible in 2013, so really he should be compared to that draft class.

Barbashev is awesome. It's unfair that the Blues got both him and Fabbri.

Brandon Montour put up almost a ppg pace in his first year in the NCAA this year (20pts in 21 games) as a defenseman, after impressing everybody at Ducks camp last offseason. He recently signed his ELC and has Ducks fans excited. Taken 55th overall, so not a late pick by any means but the upside here is huge.

Anthony DeAngelo was drafted in the first round but I think #19 is late enough in relation to his current production to be considered a possible steal.

He is currently 13th in points in the OHL right now (as a dman!) and most players ahead have 10 games on him. How that will translate to the NHL I don't really know but looks good so far in the OHL at least.

Hard to project DeAngelo as a "steal" when you look at the players picked ahead of him. Not many duds in that group, so far.

For example, the four players that were picked just ahead of him (Larkin, Tuch, Milano and Sanheim) are all having excellent seasons and are still arguably as good or better prospects than DeAngelo.

Rourke Chartier is the definition of steal

Comparable to Hudon and Brown in terms of late pick to production

Rinat Valiev is looking good, 4th in D PPG in the WHL, but was taken early 3rd as a 2nd year eligible player so not sure how much he can rise in a redraft.
