Nice. I've been pumping this kid up for a while. He's right on that early second late first round cusp.

Just what we need. Him and Kadri as a 1-2 going forward is mouth watering.

Not necessarily. It depends on what you'd be willing to give up though. For instance, I could see the Leafs dangling a guy like Gardiner to Colorado (5th) or Edmonton (7th) for their pick to get either Monahan, Barkov, or Lindholm.

I've read Colorado is looking for young d-men, and Edmonton would have a chance to pair up Schultz with his best buddy Gardiner. In return we would get Monahan to pair with Kadri down the middle, and we still have Reilly in the system, plus at the 25th pick we could also draft a smooth skating defenseman like Hagg or Bowey.

As big a Gardiner fan as I am, I would trade him for one of those three centers. It's hard to acquire those type of guys, you really have to draft them.

That depends. Worth is subjective. I wouldn't have thought Luke Schenn was worth JVR, but a combination of factors made it possible. Lets says a team in the top 10 wants a D-Man and the players on the board are Pulock, Zadorov, Ristolainen, Morrisey. I would take Gardiner over all of those players, especially considering we already know Gardiner can play in the NHL. The only defenceman rated in the top 10 that I would take over Gardiner are Jones and Nurse.

But we're likely out of reach. We'll have to find that late 1st gem.

How do we trade up for Seth Jones? BPA by a wide margin.

I am, I don't see Mac or Drouin in his league this year. Drouin has made up a lot of ground but still is far behind, Mac has stayed or regressed from the hype. Nichushkin I love, but this is a generational D man we have here compared to Pronger. He's my BPA with a bullet.

How many viewings, even on TV, does it take to call a kid who is 17, a "generational" talent.

Looking at stat lines won't tell you that, and I guess scouts could, but i'm yet to hear one use the phrase.

I think the top will be BPA based on the organization, which is basically how it always is, but if you have a team that has a philosophy that you build around a certain position/skill/trait, a GM wouldn't be called crazy for taking any of the top 4. Jones, Drouin, MacKinnon, And Barkov, are all special at what they do. I would LOVE if we had the same pick as we did last year. We would land one of a good group of excellent talents.

Just nitpicking, but it's a top 3 and not a top 4 at this point. I see:

MacKinnon
Drouin
Jones

-------------

Barkov
Lindholm
Monahan
Nichushkin

It's hard to argue that there's anyone above Jones right now.

He has too many dynamic facets to his game that put him well above the competition.

I know we have a ridiculous amount of depth at the D spot but for the love of god can we please get our hands on Ryan Pulock! This kid has probably the best slap shot for a d-man in the W since Shea Weber. He can skate, he can shoot, he can set up plays, lethal point shot on the pp, he can hit and he can play fairly physically on D. His numbers dipped quite a bit (mostly reflective of team performance I'd think) ever since he came back from injury early in the season. He could still be playing through some issues but who knows. I can see this kid dropping in the draft because of the non-flashy #s, if he's there around 16-20, I seriously hope we pick him up.

Lol. That wasn't the point. But i see what you're saying.

I mention a top 4, because I believe there are 4 really special talents in the draft, personally.

The "generational" stuff was the point, for obvious reasons.... Haha.

Just did an updated standings Mock Draft to see who might still be available to us at our pick.

1) Florida – Seth Jones
2) Columbus – Nathan Mackinnon
3) Colorado – Jonathan Drouin
4) Buffalo – Alex Barkov
5) Tampa Bay – Darnell Nurse
6) Edmonton – Sean Monahan
7) Washington – Valeri Nicushkin
8) Calgary – Elias Lindholm
9) Philadelphia – Rasmus Ristolainen
10) New York (I) – Ryan Pulock
11) Nashville – Anthony Mantha
12) Winnipeg – Hunter Shinkaruk
13) Minnesota – Adam Erne
14) Phoenix – Max Domi
15) St. Louis – Nikita Zadorov
16) Dallas – Alex Wennberg
17) San Jose – Frederik Gauthier
18) Columbus – Zach Fucale
19) Columbus – Ryan Hartman
20) New Jersey – Curtis Lazar
21) Carolina – Kerby Rychel
22) Ottawa – Bo Horvat
23) Detroit – Robert Hagg
24) Vancouver – Josh Morrisey
25) Toronto – Justin Bailey/Madison Bowey/Connor Hurley/JT Compher/Mirco Muller

Anyone I'm forgetting?

I know we have a lot of defencemen, but I really love Madison Bowey from Kelowna. In 64 games he's at 12g 18a 30pts +37 71pim, and I believe most of that is on the second PP unit. I'm not quite sure who to compare him to. Maybe a Drew Doughty lite. He's a right D, an elite level skater, with excellent hockey sense, and offensive instincts, hard shot. He's at 194lbs right now with a stocky build that looks like he can add another 20 pounds without loosing speed. He's going to be a tank, really strong. I have a feeling this kid is going to rocket up boards come draft day (pardon the pun), in which case he could push one of the forwards down, but I wouldn't be adverse to taking this guy at 25.

Bailey obviously has the most upside. He has the potential to be a top 6 powerforward, with great size solid skating and an elite level shot. Right now in 52 games he has 17g 19a 36pts +20 30pim. There are concerns about his consistency and compete though. I see him as being a Chris Stewart type of player.

Hurley would be third on my board based on who is available on this list. I see him as a playmaking center with top 6 potential. He has very good vision and passing, and a quick release to keep defenders honest.

Agreed. I think this kid could be a bit of a sleeper. Hoping he is around when we pick in 2nd round. Biggest knock seems to be strength, and that should improve as he gets older and fills out.

i thought that was hedman, then doughty, ect.
comparing him to pronger is pretty lofty, he had over a point a game, over 2 points a game in the playoffs and a +97 his draft year also quite a few pm's to go with his mean streak.

Have wait until after the lottery since any team out of the playoffs can win.

Rielly and Kadri minimum bid.
