I really like him, but i agree with Bert, i'd move down if he's the guy we are eyeing. I'd give anything for like 5 2nd round picks this draft. He reminds me of a much bigger Hamhuis, in terms of how smart he is positionally.

Also, got some very nice words from Team Canada's coach, will probably be a shoo-in for future tourneys as he's a very safe player who can play huge minutes:
Quote:
Prendergast calls him a great skater for a big kid. Heatherington played for Canada last month in Russia at the under-18 championship. He can skate the puck out of his own end, but hes not going to score a lot of goals for you. But defensively he competes. Hes on the right side of the puck all the time. Hes got a good stick. Hes just very, very intelligent in his own end.

I would think right now if theres a steal in the draft its going to be Dillon Heatherington, Prendergast said. I think at the end of the tournament, he was our best defenceman.

So who do we need to win/lose that remain in these playoffs for us to potentially get a better draft pick, if that possibility even exists?

If Detroit wins the series, it's 23, if Chicago wins, it's 24.

That's the most it can change.

Well that kind of...sucks. Looks like we'll pick 23rd then. Thanks.

Hopefully Detroit knocks the Hawks. 23 is a lot better then where we started out (26)

We'll probably get a good solid pick at 23. But what I wouldn't do for more 2nd round picks

From what I saw in a couple of his highlight videos, he has great hockey IQ. He seems like a player that won't necessary bring that offensive upside to a team but will rather focus his game to his defensive responsibilities. However, like Bert and yourself have said, he's in that grey area between our 1st round pick and where our 2nd round pick would have been. I would love to see a guy like Heatherington play on the opposite side with Corrado/Tanev as a shut-down pairing in the future.

I would like us try to get a pure offensive defenseman at some point in this draft. Whether Morrissey with our 1st, or Theodore if we trade down a bit, or Subban with our 3rd.

I think a high upside PMD is a big hole in our prospect pool.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if Theodore is gone before our pick.

I don't think we could trade down from 23 to get him.

Like I said earlier IMO, the BPA at 23 could easily be a defensman.

I think we should try to get Lazar, he can play Center/RW. But say Zykov or some other players that we have been monitoring have not been drafted like Rychel and Hartman etc. then I would go after one of them. If we want higher just trade Edler or someone to Tampa for a 3rd so we can hopefully get Drouin.

I meant 1st round 3rd overall if anyone looked at it as a third rounder.

Just noticed yesterday that Montreal has 3 second round draft picks.

They've got Nashville's, Calgary's and their own 2nd round draft pick as well as their first round draft pick.

That's 3 picks in the top 36!

I would not be shocked if Pulock or Morrissey are there at 23.

Even at 23/24 is that player going to make any contribution to eh Canucks while Gillis is a GM? It's 50/50 at best even in this deep draft.

Tampa needs Dmen but not that badly, also a guy like Drouin would be the perfect fit to take over when MLS finally hangs them up for TB.

Certainly could, as soon as next year. Depends how NHL-ready the player is. For example, I could see someone like Rychel make it right out his first camp. Someone like Mantha might take longer.

If we want Drouin we'll have to give up our first in addition to Edler...and even then who knows?

Then they could draft someone like Petan with that pick and make a high skill gamble.

It would be stupid to add anything to Edler to get the 3rd overall, as the odds are the 3rd won't be as good as Edler.

And anyone expecting Drouin to become the next MSL will likely be disappointed.

Eh, I could do with our first instead of 2 2nds. This draft has an incredibly deep top 20 and then drops off a bit. Odds are one of those guys in the top 20 will be passed over and fall to us.

We'd be smarter to take the solid prospect here instead of gambling with a few 2nds. This draft looks a lot like 2003 in which almost every team came out of the first with an impact player. To be one of the few teams to miss out (i.e. Rangers or Habs that year) would be very costly.
