Officiating

It seems like the quality has been sliding down hill the last few years then took a nose dive off the cliff this year.

All across the league GM's are upset with the officiating, seems like they needed more of a training camp as well, but they seem to be truly inept this year. Missed some of the old long time officials actually, they actually at least were consistent, NHL is missing a lot with bad officiating right now.

And that is without Auger btw this year, an he's the worst ref I've ever seen.

Fast, physical games are never going to be perfectly officiated. But yes, it could definitely be better.

It is the beauty of the sport. Would you guys rather it be like NBA where it is almost blatantly rigged?

It will definitely be looked at in the offseason. But, at least the Wild are overcoming most of these non calls to win games.

Refs have hard jobs... But these non-calls on high sticking penalties are crazy.

I'm pretty sure it is. Even some statistical evidence somewhere.

Would love somebody to compile all the missed high sticking calls of the last three weeks.

As for the high sticks missed, I'm guessing it has a lot to do with how the Wild players are not selling them. You rarely see a Wild play take one, only then to have a stick and/or glove go flying, and hit the ice holding their face like you see from some teams. It could be something that's coming down from Yeo or the vets to assure that they don't take themselves out of the play or what have you; or I could be way off.

However, this is a team that really hasn't made an effort to sell much of anything this season. And when they're not attempting to draw attention to the play, some refs are going to miss it.

I dunno, we've seen a lot of guys drop to the ice after getting hit. Granted they aren't flinging their gear every which way, but they are dropping. Refs just aren't paying attention.

I believe somebody asked Russo about all the recent high stick no-calls and why the Wild haven't been getting the calls. Russo's response was basically: because the Wild players don't act like they just got shot after it happens.

the call that still bothers me is when suter was talking with the ref about a call (i think on koivu) and we got another freakin penalty! i'd really like the league to fine that ref!

I don't think he was "talking" and that's why he got a penalty.

He wasn't talking? Do you think he mouthed out something obscene to the ref?

The biggest problem I have with officiating this year, they are letting the fact that guys stay down after hits influence whether they are making a call at all.

Coyle wasn't getting called for anything when his hit happened. No ref put their arm up or anything, play was stopped because of injury. While the Columbus player was being looked at, the Refs huddled and after the huddle decided to call a phantom headshot.

What... it's a head shot now everytime a guy gets shaken up on a clean check!?!? That was about as textbook a full body check as there is, but because the guy got rocked and was dazed, they just "assumed" it must've been a headshot and gave the match penalty, which the league rescinded the next day.

Call what you actually see, not what you think might have happened but you didn't see, because of a player being injured.

From bad to worse, the NHL should honestly be EMBARESSED by the officiating on the ice tonight, complete and utter travesty, i'm almost more upset about that then Pommer being injured.

It's pretty clear the NHL hates the Wild
