Thought it was ridiculous that he moved Brodin to the third pairing to accomodate handedness. I get that, if you wanted to reduce Suter's ice time a bit to keep him fresher, you move Brodin to another pairing and give them equal minutes. But Suter got 26 minutes while Brodin got 18. That's just plain dumb.

Suter and Spurgeon were dreadful together to start the year and were dreadful when Spurgeon came back.

Suter needs a steady defenseman who is good in his end, and Spurgeon has not been that guy this year. He was awful in the D zone tonight. Maybe you can put Spurgeon with Brodin, but not with Suter.

Not to mention Granlund on the fourth line. Ugh.

Well to Yeo's credit...Ganlund winning that faceoff in Detroit's zone last night was a key reason Mitchell sunk it in.

We are winning, well we won.

Yeo continues to make head scratchers.

Winning solves everything. Playing .500 is not going to solve it all. He looks lost. He does not have a track record of winning to gain trust. He did not make the NHL so he cannot fall back on that. He is only three years older than Cullen. It is hard for a new coach to gain respect as it is, now a young inexperianced one. Zids last year. A guy that is about .5 points per game and alot on the PP for his career. No idea what was said, but Yeo could have learned from a guy that has international experiance and an NHL vet. Instead Zids has the worst year of his career. We were 27th in the NHL last year in PP%. This year up to 21st. I think Parise and Suter have a lot to do with that. Yeo needs help but seems not to ask for it. He wants to beat a system into these players and it is not working. Consistant line shuffling. He is bringing no stability.

Wes Walz's name is thrown around. If Walz says you need to work harder. You know he worked that hard in the NHL. He put his work in. He was a PITA to play against. He was a hot shot scorer with speed but had to reinvent himself. He became one of the better defensive forwards in the game. Hard to dismiss that. The guy gave Forsberg fits.

Send him to Houston if that's the case but Yeo needs to stop putting him on the 4th line.
I don't get this either.

Mitchell is a decent player.

Limiting Granlund's ice time and in general the role that line plays however...:fa cepalm:

I'm starting to think we need to have Yeo sit out a game...

Keep in mind that Yeo doesn't believe in traditional 4 lines as we see them as 2 scoring, 1 energy, 1 checking line. He was mixing it up a bit from what I saw. Namely Brodin playing with Suter when Dats and Zets were out there. I do believe that Granlund got the short end of the stick again last night and that is bad on Yeo though. But he was playing with two guys who will bang into the boards and get the puck out to him to shoot it. Something we all want the kid to be doing. Having him play with Zucker would have only put him into a pass orientation. I do however want to see Yeo call up Coyle and get reunite that line of Coyle-Granlund-Zucker and see what comes out of it.

Granlund has been winning faceoffs on every line he's been in though.

He is getting better, but the kid still gets thrown out of the circle just as much as he wins them. Was the huge reason they had Cullen on the line with him to take the faceoffs if he was thrown out. As I said...he is getting better at winning them cleanly, but he still isn't winning them as consistent as you need for a top 1-2 line.

They actually have/had him getting thrown out on purpose. Russo talked about it around the third or fourth game this season. The coaching staff wanted him to find ways to get an edge on the circle, so they just told him to try whatever he wanted and see what worked. Having a second center or someone who can play center in a pinch meant it was no big deal of he got thrown out.

Lindy Ruff has been fired from Buffalo.

First legit head coach who could potentially replace Yeo.

Very curious if this puts any pressure on...

I think it will put more pressure on several other team bench bosses, not Yeo. Sacco in Colorado is more than likely the next sack job. If McLellan cannot pull his team fully out of the slump, I imagine his leash is shorter than Yeo's as well.

This doesn't even take into account Todd Richards being as good as gone from Columbus within the near future.

My point is that there are at least four other coaches with shorter leashes/hotter seats than Yeo...

Sacco probably isn't a great head coach, but Colorado screwed him by not re-signing O'Reilly. They're about where the Wild were a year ago...some nice pieces but no depth and ravaged by injuries.

Wrong thread.

I can't see the Wild firing Yeo for Ruff. The Avs, on the other hand...

Yes, firing TR for Ruff would seriously be a major upgrade for CBJ.

Not sure what the new GM thinks about Ruff though.

It is funny going through other teams boards and seeing how many are asking if they should fire their coach now to hire Ruff.

Ruff is a markedly better option than Yeo. I'd do it tomorrow if it was up to me.

Is it possible or is it wishful thinking he comes to the Wild?

The thought of it is so much fun! lol

Well, there's the tactical coach with experience that we'd need to accompany Yeo.

I don't see Yeo necessarily getting fired though. Maybe lowered to assistant coach? I mean, he isn't a bad coach and I can only assume the organization likes him.

When have you ever seen a professional coach (in any sport) be relieved of his position and take the role of an assistant? Doesn't happen.
