I think the coaches understand what makes him tick. That combined with it being a contract year, we're going to see a lot of effort from this kid. He's finally shooting more.
He's been great defensively but I'd like to see a bit more offense. Once he gets settled in between Ladd and Little the points should start coming in.
Another thing that was noted on the 1290 post game show is how Burmi likes to play more of an East-West game where as the coaching wants him to play North-South. His offensive production might not be where we'd like it because of these clashing styles. It'll be interesting to see how Burmistrov deals with this in the future as the team evolves. He's going to either stick with what made him successful in the past or incorporate more of the North American style into his game.
Burmi has been great this year, best might be a stretch but he's certainly in the conversation.
I think what will be telling is if he can keep it up. We were in a similar spot last year, where in the first 10 or so games he was a stud and then slowly disappeared. If he can keep up this level of play I'll be thrilled.
He caught my attention last year early on; it is a pleasure to watch him skate. He is solid on his feet, and is like a typical 21 year old...will hit anything, including Chara. He is my favorite player, Wheels and Buffy a close second.
Kid plays with heart and intensity...is prone to ups and downs though mood wise I have noticed. He seems to be sensitive and wears his heart on his sleeve. The kind of guy that if you praise him or handle him with kid gloves he will take a puck in the teeth if you ask him. Yell at him, he is going to shut down. That is at least what I have gathered from the various interviews and what I have read. No one has said it, but that is my take on him. He also considers the Jets his family so I don’t think he is going anywhere anytime soon.
I have talked to some people who when Burmi comes up they say trade him, he is mediocre. I have stood fast in my belief that he is going to be a great player in a few more years. We saw flashes last year and this year it is getting more consistent. Good move (IMHO) to move him up to center Ladd and Little
Get him into Gary Roberts’ place and pack some more meat on his bones and he will be a force.
He has been the Jets best possession player up front.
I really like the kid and he looks like a nice piece, but I wouldn't put him above Buff, Toby or Kane at the moment. He is in that next tier with Ladd, Little and Wheeler.
I would love for he and Kane to be the Jets' top 2 forwards by year end. Big development from the youngsters is what's best for the team long term.
love burmi and buff though.....both have stepped it up this year.
Toby has had 2 bad games, but he is playing well overall. He is leading the league in defensive scoring, he has had 3 separate D partners and he is handling all of the Jets top matchups at this point.
He would be starting in the all-star game if their was one and deservedly so.
He has 2 points in 9 games. I'd like our best player to be on a 'slightly' different scoring pace than that.
I'm sure I can grab most PPG players last season and show a segment where they had similar goal production under a similar spread.
That said I agree and highly doubt that Burmistrov will have the offensive capabilities to be our "best player"... I also think his offensive capabilities are far superior to what some seem to think they are.
I would probably have a tier system much like Trucks:
Enstrom, Byfuglien and Kane
Bogosian(hopefully), Wheeler, Ladd and Little
Hainsey, Burmistrov, Jokinen and Antropov
Postma, Stuart, Wellwood(I think he's underrated because most of his contributions are silent) and Ponikarovsky
hes a great person to have with the puck in the offensive zone. speed, quick hands. hes one of the few "finesse" players we have that can wheel around in the opponents end with the puck and make plays off it without just throwing it at the net
the points should come, they may not. but its obvious watching when hes on the ice just how effective he is. with the puck and without. hes a pesky checker and hits harder than his size
obviously wed all like to see more points from a guy with his skillset, but when the rest of his game is so solid its easier to overlook. hes finally earned big minutes and plays a huge role on this team. clearly the coaches value him too by moving him up to the second line
on that note, i really like antro. but burmi adds more to that line IMO. adds speed and makes it more dynamic
IMO his game continues to develop, but he is not there yet. If the day comes where he can consistently get points, and maintain his defensive disapline then you can start putting him closer to the top tier or 2 on this team.
He is my favorite Jet, hence why when I joined the site a while back I took the name. I think he has exceptional puck handling and skating skills. you put him with Kane and Wheeler and you should get an idea what he has to offer.

If he runs with his 2nd line gig maybe he gets there.

At this point in the year, Burmistrov seems to be the only one to get me fired up when they have the puck in the offensive zone. He's been handling it so well and he's not necessarily just going to throw it in front of the net blindly (Kane). It's been a treat to watch and I think that kind of creativity in the offensive zone is something you really want to hang on to.
He started off last year looking great too for the first 10 games then slowly fell off the pace IMO...hope he can keep it going the full 48 and up his offensive game a bit!

If it starts to click and he can find his passing game, I want to see him on the powerplay. I love a powerplay that is run from the half wall and he has the right skill set to thrive there.
As it sits, the non Toby powerplay unit seems to really struggle finding opportunities. Toby isn't perfect, but he does a really nice job finding seems and setting up his teammates. They need another PP QB that can make a guy miss 1 on 1 and dish the rock.
Alex has progressed very nicely and that is exactly what we need from our young core of players.
As mentioned already his possession game is very good now. last year he tended to over handle the puck at times and this year he seems to know when and where to dish it especially on the cycle. His offensive play without the puck has gotten better but that is still his biggest runway for progression IMHO. I think last year due to language and maturity he struggled a bit with in game adjustments and direction from the bench. What I see this year is a young player who is becoming much more comfortable shift in shift out with what he should be doing and where he should be. At some point when (not if) it clicks his production is going to start to improve on offense and he will become a total package player.
I have no issues with his size because he has a high compete level, is feisty, and has a willingness to physically engage. He has more than enough gusto to compete and do what is necessary for us to win. As they say sometimes it’s the not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog and this applies to Burmi.
I agree that he currently sits in the second tier on our roster but his improvement arc is noticeable and I love watching the kid play the game and he is quickly becoming one of "my" favorites.
Call me old fashioned but I never worry as much about a key young asset with lots of talent when I hear the player is first to the practice rink and last to leave

Even in the pre game skate Burmi works. He works on his fundamentals, puck skills and movement.
