Alfredsson won the Calder Trophy in the dead-puck era.

Personally, I'd temper my expectations a bit.

If Silfv gets half as many points as Alfie has, he'll have had a solid career.

I don't know about being unfair. Silfverberg is better at the same age, and has a better track record at the same age than Alfredsson and most of the top prospects that have come out of Sweden. The sky is the limit if he continues to push himself to succeed.

He also started in the NHL at 23 years old, and the game was very different then.

Agreed, but I have higher hopes for him. So far he hasn't disappointed.

Alfie was asked who Jacob reminded him of a few weeks ago, he replied "me".

TSN Turning Point on Silfverberg's season came a couple of weeks ago, when Damien Cox of the Toronto Star dissed him. That Leaf loving goof never gets anything right. Therefore, when Cox said, in essence, that the SEL must be a lousy league if a player as mediocre as Silfverberg was the MVP, you knew Silfverberg was about to step it up. Thanks Damien!

This.

I'm pretty high on him, but these boards are nutso when it comes to prospects.

How many career points are you projecting for Silf?

Forget about how good he looked scoring those goals and just realize that predicting a HOF type of career for anyone not named Crosby as a rookie is just crazy...there are so many more factors than just wanting to improve or having a good shot, etc...

Can we just hope for continued improvement and more success over the next few weeks and into the play-offs? Then we can hope for a good offseason of training and finally a good start to the next season...

I love his potential, just don't want to set up unrealistic expectations.

He continues to be more comfortable with every game & now he is starting to get some puck luck. IMO he has Alfie type potential.

The other thing to look at is that he is almost averaging 3 shots a game and has less than a 10% shooting percentage...that will go up. His shot is way too good and I've already seen a few times this year hitting the post and/or just barely missing scoring. He's the type that should have a 13%+ shooting percentage IMO.

Not sure who mentioned it, but Alfie was 22 when he started his NHL career- not 23.

Only because his birthday is in December...he spent most of his rookie season as a 23 year old.

I know. Someone had mentioned that he was 23 when he started, though. Just pointing out that he was in fact 22. No biggie.

I believe the exchange went something like this:

Reporter: Who does Silfverberg remind you of?

Alfie: Himself

Making the point that Silfverberg is his own player, and shouldn't be compared to anyone else.

Well that doesn't sound as fun, I'm going to keep spreading the urban myth until it becomes HF fact.

It may not be long before fans at Scotiabank Place really get the hang of that popular Brynas chant in the SEL last season: “Oh, ah, Silfverberg, say oh-ah, Silfverberg!”
I want this to happen so badly.

Someone PLEASE start this chant at SBP next time Silfver scores a goal at home. I only get games on the tube and would love for this to catch on and hear it through the tv.

I've tried a few times. On his first NHL goal I was chanting it at the game. I don't think enough casuals know about it yet. It will eventually catch on though.
