a few years ago it was staal easy but he seems to have regressed. will never really see kopitars ceiling unless he played with a 1st line winger.
Wouldn't the case be the same for Staal? The best players he's played with include Erik Cole, Justin Williams, Corey Stillman, Ray Whitney, Jussi Jokinen and an 18-year old Jeff Skinner. Not to mention the guy has had 7-straight 70+ point seasons, which is every season except his rookie year.
Staal scares me more when the Leafs play the Canes/Kings, he's stronger and more physically dominant, a player who's incredibly hard to contain when he's playing well. Kotpirar is better defensively though, and quite talented offensively in his own right (though in more of a subtle, finesse way). Basically a wash for me.
Actually if you look at the stats per year and game Kopitar is better.
Stall 592/9 or 66 pts a year and .89 pts a game
Kopitar 446/6 or 74 pts a year and .91 pts a game
Career points per season, points per game, those don't mean anything. Kesler scored just 81 points in his first 238 games - he was a 3rd/4th liner playing a defensive role. Do you know how Kopitar and Staal have been used by their coaches their entire career? Do you know their development path?
Those numbers have absolutely nothing to do with who is the better player right now.
