What Happened to Paul Stastny?

He went from a player that looked like he could be a superstar 90 point center in the league, to now struggling to put up 60 points. Seems like ever since he signed his new contract he hasn't been the same. Can Colorado fans give some insight?

Would maybe help, who knows. It's crazy that he went from looking like he could be one of the best US players ever to possibly not even making the team next year in Sochi.

He's always one of the best players on team USA no matter what, plus he and Patches have some pretty good chemistry going on, I don't see how he'll get left off the roster.

So it all has to do with the people around him? No one is putting any blame on him?

There's a lot of people blaming him and he's not without fault in regards to his regression, but he hasn't regressed as much as his point totals could make you believe.

It's a mixture of a lot of things but the Avs offensive gameplan revolves around dumping the puck in or scoring off the rush. Those don't play to Stastny's strengths so he's probably going to stay underwhelming until the Avs get their act together and fire Succo

LOL he's put up good seasons without playing with that guy, and In fact I don't even think he played with Sakic all that much when he they were both playing.

Joe Sacco has been the biggest problem, Im pretty confident if he ever gets traded or Sacco gets fired it wont be long before Stas is putting up the consistent 70 point seasons again. He's got great vision and can really make that difficult pass. Part of the problem with him is he has to have a good finisher on his line to produce, like most playmakers.

With a goal scorer on his wing and a coach that actuallt utilizes his game and uses it well, he could easily be a 20G-50A guy again. But with the linemates he's had the last few years, it's just not possible for him to maintain those assist numbers.

Stastny really needs a new home or a completely new coaching staff (and some linemates wouldn't hurt). Stastny is about as pure a playmaker as you can get, he needs players that can finish. The Avs under Sacco have apparently placed no emphasis on anything, they look absolutely terrible at anything hockey related.

Seriously, watch an Avs game and laugh as they employ the kindergarten offensive zone plan where the emphasis is on them being within reaching distance and line up single file. It is getting to the point that I am convinced that players get benched for actually getting open for chances.

When Stastny is at his best he is making passes to wingers in the slot. When these wingers fail to finish, or as of lately completely whiff on the shot his point totals will go down.

Lost his winger. Stewart hasn't been the same either.

I know he wasn't the most popular guy in Colorado but Stastny looked much better playing under Q and in his system

Do you think firing Q stunted the development of Stastny to some extent? He has been up and down as a player (Mostly down) since Q left

Also he would look great between Sharp + Hossa on Hawks 2nd line. Did he and Q get along?

So Stastny for Hjalmarsson and Bolland then?

Someone already said it; Stewart and Stastny haven't been the same since they got split up. Linemates matter and niether one to my knowledge has had much of a shot with decent linemates after the trade.

Thank god the Leafs didn't go for that Bozak + 2nd offer Avs fans wouldn't stop harassing us about.

He's a playmaker and needs his wingers to finish to get points. McGinn hit five posts playing with Stastny the first five games. David Jones has be brutal this far.

Hopefully when Landeskog get back, he'll play with Stastny.
