MacArthur-McClement-Kulemin

Would you consider trading Grabovski, if it really didn't set this team back this year. (We have a solid hard-working group - Mcclemment on the 3rd line isn't awful)

Grabovski +
for
1st + upper prospect.

JVR-Bozak-Kessel - Good first line with size
Lupul-Kadri-Frattin - Sheltered scoring line
Komarov-Mcclement-Kulemin - Elite defensive line probably best in the league
Orr-McLaren-Brown - Teams beware

Not sure if these pairings work or not
Phaneuf-Holzer
Gardiner-Kostka
Franson-Fraser
Komi

Trade away Mac, Grabo and Liles. And try to get ROR with Bozak as a package + someone.

I would have a hard time dropping JVR from any line with Kessel. Kessel makes the space for players like JVR to succeed; we don't have any other player that can do that.

With that said, I think Kessel would benefit more from playing on a line with Lupul. As I have not seen JVR provide many opportunities for the other players on his line.

It's a tough choice; but ultimately I would go with something like:

JVR - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Frattin
Komarov - Grabovski - Kulemin
Orr - McClement - Brown/Mclaren

With Mac in the USSR.

I wish it was possible for a Lupul-JvR-Kessel line. And then Grabo-Kadri-Frattin line. I believe those are our 6 most gifted offensive players right now.

I think if it was an 82 game season, JVR would have had a long look at C. He's big and can move, and probably played C close to his entire life as the best players growing up usually do. Doing it at the NHL level, maybe a stretch, but worth a look

Forwards:
Lupul Bozak Kessel
JVR Kadri Frattin
Komarov Grabo Kulemin
McClaren McClement Orr

Extra Forwars:
Brown, Steckel, MacArthur

Phaneuf Gunnarsson
Gardiner Holzer
Fraser Franson

Defensive Extras:
Komisarek, Liles

Goalies:
Reimer/Scrivens

I don't think the Leafs are actively looking to trade anyone. Brown is a good extra forward in case McClaren or Orr have a stretch of bad games or break a hand fighting. Steckel is good to have in case McClement gets injured. MacArthur is perfect for any top 6 injuries.

Komisarek and Liles are also great options for injuries on the backend.

I know there's 24 players above, so players like Fraser or Holzer - unless they're playing above their heads - get sent down. That's just cause they're on 2 way contracts and can be recalled easier than others. I think the only way Leafs trade any one is if an offer comes along that's too good to turn down that immediately improves the roster or gives them a good young center prospect. In that case I think the best trade bait they offer is a combination of:

Bozak, Gardiner, MacArthur, Liles

Probably not enough to bring in someone, so again I digress, a trade probably isn't in the works till we get closer to the deadline.

I'd probably keep Macarthur in on the Grabo line, and push Komarov to take Orr's place.
I think Liles would slot in somewhere ahead of Fraser or Holzer, but there's certainly lots of depth.

Pretty sure that Komisarek would get waived at this point rather than send Fraser or Holzer down. I believe that Holzer would need to pass through waivers and Fraser definitely would.

MacArthur under-performed on his contract, and should renew for around Kulemin money this off-season, which would be a solidly priced player.

I wouldn't want Lupul moved, as he is a fan fav but Carlyle might be a wedge that drives Lupul out. Lupul is great in a Wilson system, not so in a Carlyle system.

Most likely Lupul comes back and bumps MacArthur to the press box, but I would be very shocked if there was a trade. This short, compressed season is a very harsh toll on player health.

If you have personnel to spare you're lucky, but injuries are coming fast and heavy to all teams, so hold on to your guys and ride out the season.

Lupul with Kadri and Frattin sounds fantastic. That said, if JVR moves off top line for Lupul's return, Kadri, Frattin and JVR is equally exciting!

Joffrey Lupul says he isn't close to being able to resume skating yet, which could delay his initial projected return from a fractured forearm.
"It's just kind of wait-and-see and keep working every day and make sure I'm in shape and ready to go whenever I do get cleared," Lupul told Sportsnet Tuesday. It sounds like he might not return in mid-March, but we'll keep you posted on his status as more information develops.

Just ****ing great. Team is so cursed.

I know we are playing well but how long can that go on without your best all around forward.

Why can't he skate? You mean a guy with a cast on his arm can't take a twirl or two? I just assumed he's been skating on the side the whole time?

Lupul-Bozak-Kessel
JVR-Kadri-Frattin
Komarov-Grabo-Kulemin
Mclaren/Brown-Mcclement-Orr
Steckel

That JVR-Kadri-Frattin line could be a fantastic second line for a long, long time. Kadri and Frattin already have great chemistry, and JVR brings a combination of skills that would seem to mesh well with theirs.

Our only true hole upfront right now is a # 1 C, and we have a lot of expendable assets. Hopefully down the road we get some real rough and tumble third-liners like Biggs or Leivo who can also chip in offensively.

If he fell he could re-fracture and have to start over.

Lupul just following the script of his career, often injured slow to heal. Bad signing.

When Lupul returns...

I'm a huge JVR fan and it really pains me to say this but I think he could be relieved of his first line duties upon Lupul's return (perhaps not the first game).

If someone asked me today who'd I keep on the first line, I wouldn't know how to answer it -- I'm completely torn between the two.

I'd like to see something like this

Lupul - Bozak - Kessel
Komarov - Grabovski - Kulemin (2a/checking line)
vanRiemsdyk - Kadri - Frattin (2b scoring)
McClaren - McClement - Orr

Bye bye MacArthur?
They'll just cycle guys through the press box. No guarantees for Lupul either, bad history with Carlyle and he didn't have stellar numbers prior to his injury this year.

I think you leave JVR with Kessel. It might not be as effective as the Lupul-Kessel combo offensively but JVR brings a new defensive element to that line. Then Kadri who is arguably our best offensive play maker gets a legit winger in Lupul which could easily be last years Kessel line. Then add Frattin and that is looking at potentially our best line... Then on the 3rd line you have the old KGM line back together and hopefully that line will get going. Easily one of the best top 9's in the NHL IMO.

JVR - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Frattin
Kule - Grabovski - Mac
Komorav - Mcclement - Maclaren

The Kessel- Lupul duo is way, way better than the JVR - Kessel duo.

Lupul is a much better passer. He's a better sniper (for now), and he's better on the rush (which is where Phil thrives).

Lupul creates way more room for Phil.

On the PP we need Lupul - JVR - Kessel though.
