Impressions of Tanner Glass..

Jets fan here, just wondering what your impressions are of Tanner Glass so far? Looks like he's had a few good scraps against Martin and Asham.

I really can't believe we let him goto free agency over $35 or whatever it was. He played on our 3rd line but I think he's better suited getting 4th line minutes. He can really cycle the puck and eat up good minutes in the offensive zone. Anyway, enough of my analysis - I'm here for yours...

PS - hoping for a good game on Friday. Sid is my favorite player but the Mario's Pool Boy chant was pretty awesome.

Great 4th liner. Good on the PK, physical, willing to scrap, I'm really happy with him.

Like him. Big upgrade at his position vs Asham.

This, he is a definite upgrade over Arron Asham, he strengthens our PK, he can hit, he's a tough fighter.

Good signing, IMO.

He's been a great fit on the 4th line. Glad we signed him.

Don't like him. Didn't need him. A gritty PK specialist who can hit with zero skill. He's the left-handed Craig Adams.

I suppose next up will be the addition of the ambidextrous Craig Adams.

Except he can skate and actually win fights.

He's an upgrade over Asham and decent at his job but I'm not really a fan of giving nondescript 4th-liners multi-year contracts. Don't like having too many 10-13th forward types being locked in place when that spot can be used to give a young guy a break into the league.

He's a great Scrabble player from his days as a Canuck:

He's an upgrade over Asham if we don't want to see any offense at all from the fourth line.

But without Jordan Staal on the third line now, I don't think we will be able to afford having Glass and Adams destroying what little offense Vitale provides in the playoffs from Line 4.

Whenever our fourth line is on the ice, the goalie might as well go for a swig of water.

I'm biased cause I love the guy, but I don't think he's incapable of providing offense.

I would like to see a stat of how well offensively some teams' 4th lines are doing.

This x1000.

It's the fourth line. These guys aren't exactly there to light the lamp. They're good for getting a semi-regular shift, firing the team up, grinding, cycling, and being a bit of a nuisance. Glass has been outstanding so far at doing all of that. He could score zero goals this season, and I couldn't care less. His physical play has been great.

A good 4th line will wear down the other team by keeping the puck in the offensive zone. Sure Arron Asham and Mike Rupp would score 5 or 6 goals, but I haven't seen this much zone time from a 4th line since Talbot, Ruutu, LaRaque. If they wear down the other team, that will lead to lines one or two scoring goals or drawing penalties. Also, we have 2 prime time PK'ers from that line. Many teams can't role out their 4th liners like we can. Have some realistic expectations here.

is he a definite upgrade over asham?

asham has shown he can score and IMo he's a little tougher/better fighter

glass, a better Pker and can skate better = able to finish off hits more

perfect scenario for me would to keep both and let one of TK/Dupes/ adams go

He is an upgrade over Asham in every area but one. Asham knew how to stick up for his team when liberties were taken with our star players much more. Glass has had a couple of fights, but overall he does not seem as likely to go into a scrum if there is reason as Asham was. And we miss that on this team.

He's no Sid or Geno, to be sure, but him and Crosby have enjoyed a lot of success together, so why would you want to mess that up? Sure, there's players out there better than him, but he'd still be valuable alongside Sutter. In other words, there's a handful of players I'd let go before Pascal.

As I was watching last night, I was thinking about how I hate Chris Neil, but I'd love him if he was a Penguin. I think a player of his ilk is something we need. Someone that's not afraid to get into Giroux's face or shove Rick Nash or somebody around a bit. Guys like Neil and Hartnell, as much as I dislike them, are great players to have on a team.
