Yeah he sure sucks.

But these guys haven't done anything for the Vancouver franchise right?

Took Lowe and his lunch money for this guy without giving up Getzlaf or Perry. Only way we redeemed that was by fluking out and getting Eberle with a low 1st round pick (hockey gods maybe having mercy on our stupidity).

In Toronto he was given nothing to work with IMO. He's still brought them some good players without giving up much, but got burned on that Kessel deal, but if that pick is just a few spots lower, that'd be a big win for them.

But yeah no better than the genuis' we have in Tambellini and Lowe.

And if we follow a strategy of trading away any actually productive players and keeping all the non-producing ones, we'll definitely be in the hunt. It'll also send quite the message to the team if you get rewarded for creating game-winning plays by getting shipped out of town, or if you get golden-boy immunity status if you happen to be a "fan favorite".

Unfortunately for us we don't presently have that sort of player who can do that game in and game out.

And god this franchise is going straight to hell if we move from Tambo to Burke.
Harti, Lander, Petrell maybe, guys upcoming in the system. Plus that in the talent brigade all of Hall, Hemsky, Yak bring exactly what you are talking about and can go through people pretty easily.

A Penner reconnect would also be immediately available. Torres couldve been had for a song.

one thing to look at right now is that other teams are reading the press clippings as well. In most games we're afforded little open ice and tight checking. This is good learning for the players. OKC maybe wasn't the ideal experience I guess for our topline. Weaker opposition can breed some bad work habits.

All we need is some players protecting the puck better and getting through traffic.

Burke offset the Sedins by placing franchise faith in Dan Cloutier. Dave Nonis brought in Luongo and the Canucks have been elite ever since...

Yeah and I've said goaltending is his blind spot as a GM.

But you can't debate that the Canucks use the rest of the NW as toliet paper.

And Burke's legacy there is a huge (perhaps the main) reason why. It takes balls to make a deal like the Sedins one. I believe he also drafted Ryan Kesler.

Not that our management group would know anything about that.

A general manager of the richest franchise in the league was "given nothing to work with" ??

How does that even make sense?

Dubnyk is the real deal. Give Burke the Oilers, tell him to leave the kids and Dubby alone and he'll build you more in one year than Tambellini can give you in ten.

What other qualified GM is out there looking for work right now anyways?

The Sedins took time, weren't awesome,we're good but weren't awesome. Now they are no question.i think their brains are still connected somehow.

Until the Leafs make the playoffs they're really not much better than us.'

And this is keeping in mind they're playing in a conference that is far inferior to ours.

'Rich' doesn't mean much if you have a salary cap and every team has the same roof to spend with.

The Oilers should know that, we would've outbid anyone for Hossa. He didn't want to sign here. Heatley didn't want to come either even though we would've gladly paid his paycheques at the time.

Having money doesn't mean much for a GM, you gotta have assets to be able to do anything.

Possibly. I think highly of RNH, but I think Gally will turn out to be even better. Both will be great players, but I'd prefer Galchenyuk. Hell, he's only 18 and already listed at just under 200 pounds (198lbs). RNH is listed at about 175, and I really dont see him getting that much bigger. He just doesn't have the frame for it. We need the big body presence of Gally so badly in this team's top six now and especially the future.

I've thought about that a few times myself. Anybody know the deal with Penner?
I know he has conditioning issues (Im thinking the divorce took a lot out him as well), but does a return to Edmonton rejuvenate him?
He's benched and scratched in LA, they can't possibly want much for him.

This is the ACTUAL NHL, not NHL13. Before the season I was all for switching him, but, frankly, Hemsky's played to a level where he deserves his spot.

As the season goes along Yakupov will get more icetime and opportunity, but you don't just give him the key and say have at it, it makes for a great way to ruin a prospect

After games like this and threads like this, I'm always left thinking "Man, don't you just hate this team?" "Like, for reals"

Gotta love the Oilers. Guy has the best shot on the team. Solution? Play him on the opposite side where he's uncomfortable.

We really do earn every one of our last place finishes.

I wasn't. Hall's lack of hockey sense will forever limit him, and RNH doesn't have the frame to ever be that "big top six centre" this team has needed since Jason Arnott.
