Not only is Hanrahan broken for the year, but Brock Holt is hitting .187 in AAA for Pawtucket. And Stolmey Pimentel actually looks like a prospect.

God dammit, that's the first Tim Neverett depth perception that's tricked me this season.

Not a very good start to the homestand--hopefully we can knock a HR next inning and get into the bullpen. I think Henderson is pretty good, but otherwise, the bullpen favors us.

Love the guy, but dear God, McKenry is an awful, awful catcher.

Nope.

And yeah...I love McKenry as much as anyone, but there's a reason why I kept saying he can't be the guy...he's just not a good catcher.

He's still the best back-up catcher we've had since the Slaught/LaValliere tandem.

Here's an odd piece of news - more than 10 teams sent scouts to Indianapolis to scout relievers Vic Black and Duke Welker.

You don't typically see that many teams scouting minor league relievers. Trading minor league relievers would seem to go against Huntington's usual strategy...though I don't have Welker as a real good bet to stick with the Pirates, if only because he's a perceived lesser version of what we have a lot of (power reliever who walks a guy every-other-inning)...but it's hard to ignore his dominance in the minors the past couple years. Injuries early on really derailed his career and he's a 27 year-old who started last season in AA, but he hasn't allowed a run yet this year and even with his walks his WHIP is a ridiculous 0.765 through 17 innings.

Black I've had penciled in as the closer of the future for a while. He walks a lot, but he's next to impossible to get a hit off of...this is a guy who averages ~13-14 Ks per 9 and has given up 4 home runs in 152.2 career minor league innings.

Their values wont be high so it wouldnt make any sense to move them. I will say though, this team has an uncanny ability to plug crap into the bullpen and have it turn out great. I'd prefer they ship out their higher value older relievers instead.

That's why it's weird. How often are high level minor league relievers, pure relievers, actually dealt? The relievers that do switch hands are either retreads or low minor throw-ins, not guys that could be in the Majors right now but aren't. There isn't a whole lot of motivation for a team to trade a guy like Vic Black when he's that close to being Major League-ready without knowing what they have with him yet...especially because the asking price for a reliever with 0 career pitches thrown in the Majors isn't going to be high unless he's Aroldis Chapman.

Jose Tabata has woken up in quite the fashion.

Brewers walking McCutchen to get to Jones...runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th.

Oh, you've got to be kidding me....

I don't know if I actually hate the Brewers or I just really hate the Pirates when they play the Brewers.

The shift...the ****ing shift.

If the defense is normal that's a game-winner...instead it's a double-play.

Ouch.

For real, he and that Segura tear us apart. It's like the Brewers have one mission each year: beat the Pirates. Play .400 ball the rest of the season? Who cares! As long as you beat the Bucs.

The wooing is making this game near unwatchable.

Braun makes a great diving play to rob MacDonald of a double.

Naturally.

I can't tell if Aoki is just magical, Inge is just that bad, or both.

To be fair, Aoki is probably safe regardless of the bobble because he's a ****ing Brewer.

edit: Braun hits into a double play to chants of STEROIDS...love it.
