Only the Pirates could manage to screw that up

Home team. 9th inning. Game will not have a save situation. Instead of putting in your closer you put in mouth-breather.

Deserve to lose the game.

Umm, I bet that they win at least 50 this year? Fireworks are pretty and bobble heads keep the kids entertained on the ride home? Do they have any cool new eating places at PNC Park? That would be cool.

Am I doing this right?

Opening series. Lots of baseball left.

Very nice to see two strong starts from Wandy and JMac--the pitching is the big question mark on this team. Not as worried about a slow starting offense in weather that barely passes for early spring, but then again, you can say that this weather helps the pitching.

Agreed. Glad there is baseball starting.

Also time to add to the ignore list again. Happens every baseball season. Fine people have to vent, but it gets old. Same old stuff. We get it. Oh well, I won't be reading it anymore.

Season should have started on the West coast, but I know that isn't always possible. But looking forward to seeing some home games soon. Didn't get season tix this season, but will still attend some games.

I never saw the pitching as the question mark as it's always been the strong suit, or at least in more recent history. The bats however have been constantly weak and I so far see no improvement over the last few years. There still is no plate discipline and tons of strikeouts in key situations. These guys keep swinging at stuff they shouldnt and taking things that they should swing at and it's beyond frustrating. It seems like they constructed the roster around fielding metrics while ignoring any semblance of on base % emphasis. It's just mostly frustrating because these are the same lingering problems that just havent seem to have been addressed.

That's awesome.

That is one stadium I would LOVE to visit.

I went to Wrigley a few years back and I was not disappointed. (I thought I was going to find it overrated, but that was not the case.) Such a great park.

Bring back a win!

I'll be there for all three games. Where are you sitting?

I'm excited to get to see some more stadiums. Petco was the first non-Pittsburgh stadium I've seen a game at and it was nice (I've been to Coors Field a couple times, but both times on off days). I'll probably get to 7 or 8 Dodger games, I'll try for the whole Pirates @ Angels series, and I'll be in San Francisco later in the year so hopefully that'll happen. Arizona, Oakland, and Seattle shouldn't be too far behind.

Petco is nice, but compared to PNC it's a mediocrity. To be fair I think just about every stadium except for whatever they're calling San Francisco's this week isn't going to compare too favorably.

Very cool stuff guys. Let us know what y'all are wearing (like a bucs hat or something) because they always zoom to Pittsburgh fans during breaks on Root.

Maybe hold up a HF sign...

I've never taken a sign to a game and I never will. Sports are serious business, son.

I'm going in my new Lemieux cup-era jersey and gold Pirates cap tonight. The next two days I'll be there in my McCutchen jersey.

It seems to me that Martin frames pitches really well.

This plate umpire seems to be doing a ****** job. I swear Sanchez threw about five strikes on that last guy.

Not sure I'm as impressed with Sanchez as Greg Brown, but he's certainly holding his own in terms of a 4th or 5th starter. We'll see if he can at least do this consistently for 6 innings before making any evaluations.

Grienke is unsurprisingly owning the Pirates...this might be one of those games where the only way to win is a bloop and a blast. Pedro almost got a hold of that last one...

Nice bit of luck there to work his way out of a jam. Crawford really has no business swinging at that, and Sanchez was looking out of gas.

He's probably only around 80 pitches, but I think I might use this as a building block and take him out. Likely not, as it's better to get at least 6 innings from the starter, but with the 2-3-4 order due up, he pretty much needs to be on the shortest of leashes if the Pirates stand a chance to win this one.
